I just don't see Whitaker losing that fight to Oscar. At worst, it's a draw.

As usual, Lampley was calling "punches" for Oscar that were all misses. ****in' cheerleader he was.
Fair enough if you saw it that way, but Lampley wasn't the judge

Lampley could have swayed the viewers' opinions on the fight. Not saying yours was....but others for sure.

Anyone who watches with the sound on is going to be affected by that; I wouldn't pretend that Lampley's antics or even Lederman's card don't have an effect on what I think of any fights, they definitely do.

Watchin Whitaker highlights, I wasnt a fan of the Jab..then run a yard or two backwards to do a lil dance. In the Oscar and Trini fight he couldnt really dominate either..

To see Trini rated that much higher then Oscar....lol Higher then Oscar, who dominated Trinidad. Just show's this sport isnt exactly perfect.

Oscar pioneered Trinidad's downfall. Put work in on Felix, without getting KO'ed.

I don't know...This sport is kind of a joke the more you think about it. Rediculous fights taking place, fighters protecting their goose eggs, horrible decisions.

Makes me wonder how boxing fans can not respect MMA, a sport that isnt determined by a judge, but by Submission of one fighter or by KO. There is rarely a "bought judge" that plays a factor in MMA.

You must be new. Marco Ruas got "judged" out of a win over Taktarov.

Whitaker is seen as a figure to be sympathized with because of the injustices he'd endured as a fighter. He really was an exceptional fighter who fought everyone, ducked no one, but was who he was.

The first loss when he was robbed in Puerto Rico, that created the precedent about which people jumped on his cause. Then the fight with Chavez, who came in as the house fighter on a Don King card, and Whitaker has his number. People felt bad for Whitaker because he was given another raw deal. But look some of the names he'd beaten, and not just the names, but how he did it.

Who else could pitch a shutout against Azumah Nelson?

Who else could make Julio Cesar Chavez look like he didn't belong in the same ring as him?

Who else was undisputed Lightweight Champ in the 80's?

The whole business with De La Hoya is that it appeared that once again Whitaker, long-reigning champion, didn't get his just-due as a champion against a bigger star. Since it was De La Hoya's duty to take the fight and he failed to do so, it just appears in the books as another episode in the Dissing Whitaker saga that Boxing had been perpetrating on Sweet Pea.

I was just watching some of Whitakers better perfeormances, and man, even I forget how amazing he really was. Every type of defense he had mastered, his jab was one of the best of all time, his punches were actually decently strong, and he went to the body incredibly, something you dont associate with Whitaker at first thought. Not to mention his speed was crazy, although imo he didnt have the explosiveness of someone like Roy Jones or Mayweather. The only fighter that seemed to ever be as relaxed in the ring as him is James Toney. plus that little bastard Pernell cracked me up with his antics in the ring.
It sounds like Im worshipping him hahaha, but really...you watch some his tapes, and his abilities were amazing. Quite possibly the most well rounded boxer of all time.

The first two bolded I agree with. Most well-rounded of all time? Nah he doesn't have nearly enough power for that. There are guys who are good defensively and can box, and punch. Those deserve the title 'well-rounded'

I think due to Whitakers style he wasnt a huge fan favourite when he was an active fighter. Not compared to Chavez.

I think people are now recognizing his skills which is great, possibly due to Mayweathers defensive ability and drawing comparisons.

Im a Sweet Pea fan, and dont believe i ever saw him run away from opponents. He gave alot of lateral movement and as he moved up in weight chose to stand in front of opponents, still able to be incredibly hard to hit.

I don't think many people think he was "robbed" against ODLH except they were using it to support the fact that ODLH did have trouble with a fading Sweet Pea and eventually that turned into peoplpe saying that he "clearly beat De La Hoya" kinda like how people arre starting to say that Tito vs De La Hoya was not that bad of a robbery.
