How can you say he only moved up to fight Vargas? You need to get your facts staraight. How can you say it is misleading that after all that time at 154, he is supposed to be able to move back down in weight at his age that fast and fight Mayweather in the same year. He would have to kill himself to get back down and fight the supposed
P4P #1 in the world in the same year. Big surprise Mayweather would want to fight him at that point. Mosley did the smart thing, he didn't duck him.

    july, 2006:

Can you tell us how you looked so good in your last fight?

SHANE MOSLEY: John did some things there; you know my father used to train John as well. We kind of got back to some of the things that me and my father used to do – the bags and a lot of the movement and stuff. We got back to that and I looked great. I felt great and I did what I had to do.

You said you are moving back to 147, is that the plan?

SHANE MOSLEY: I definitely want to move down and be considered pound-for-pound the best. As far s the writers, I feel in my heart that I am already the best down there. I have to show it and prove it to the world and the people around and that’s what I will do.

Do you think Floyd will be interested?

SHANE MOSLEY: Yes, I am pretty sure he will definitely be interested. We are going to take some time to get to 147. I am going to be coming off of two fights with basically a 160-pounder. So we are going to relax and go from there. But definitely be the next fight for me will be at welterweight.

Will you next fight be in 2007?

    SHANE MOSLEY: Most likely.

Vargas has called out all of his past losses – are you saying be careful for what you ask for – you may get it?

SHANE MOSLEY: Definitely. All things Richard said are 100% true. I agree and I couldn’t have said it any better – right off my lips. I am in great shape. I think he is delusional about what is going on and it seems like his corner and everyone else is delusional with him. I think that is a bad trait for him entering this next fight.

Do you feel this is unfinished business at 154?

SHANE MOSLEY: This is one more notch in my belt to close the book on this chapter of me and Fernando Vargas. I don’t think I want to fight at 154. I think 147 would be my weight but you never know what the future may hold and that is what is so great about boxing – it is unpredictable.

There is talk about you and Mayweather in November…

SHANE MOSLEY: They can stop waiting on that because that is not going to happen. They can stop thinking about that because it won’t happen. They can come to this fight and check it out but that won’t happen in November. It will probably happen some time next year. I am not going to have a fight after this until next year. I won’t fight again until 2007.

So you are saying go find another fight?

SHANE MOSLEY: Bascially. Go fight Margarito. Go fight Margarito – then we can fight the winner.

Does the stuff Fernando is saying upset you?

SHANE MOSLEY: You never want to get yourself agitated and all worked up. It doesn’t piss me off – it just shows me where his mind is and what he is thinking. It is not a good thing to go into a fight thinking you are the better fighter when you are really not. If he feels he doesn’t have to work on anything or try anything or adapt to anything or make adjustments, then he is being misled and his corner, the people in his corner are not qualified. So he is in some deep stuff.

Post-Winky, Shane said he was going back to welter, which he did. Go check.
Ok well I didn't know that was what you were referring to, but the point is he still spent a considerable amount of time at 154 and at his age it is difficult to drop weight like that, with it not affecting you. He didn't say he didn't wabt to fight him he said that he wanted to readjust to the weight before fighting him. You can't hate on him for that. He's trying to put himself in the best position to win.

No.. In december of 1999, Paul Spadafora was prepping for a fight. He was in shape and sharp. PBF had fought Gerena back in September and had Goyo vargas in march of 2000. Uncharacteristically, Floyd was out of shape.

So, PBF was working back from his hand injury and went six rounds in the gym with Spaddy.

On a side note, despite my difference of opinion with certain posters in here I think it's a great thing that this subject is being debated so hotly. It's been a long time since I saw some passion up here in NSB. Good ****.

He said it wouldn't happen in November. It wouldn't be until the upcoming year. What's the problem? How can you expect him to drop that much weight that fast without it affecting him. He didn't say that he wasn't gonna fight him, he said it wasn't gonna happen in November. Thats not ducking Mayweather, thats smart. Had he said he wasn't gonna fight him period that would have been different. Shane was right at that point ,he should have gone on and fought Marg., but thats another matter.

I didn't hate on Shane for the weight. I hated on Shane for saying "my tooth, my vacation".

              That sounded fake, and weak.

If he said, "Larry, I want to take time and drop the weight in a smart way", I'd be ABSOLUTELY cool with that.

Good karma given, I had never seen this video before and appreciate you telling me about it. Good video for anyone to watch. I didn't recognize the "Spaddy" nickname even though I'd heard of Spadafora multiple times before, you said 6 round sparring session and I thought Mayweather/Gatti instantly. That was certainly what it looked like though.

Here is my ONLY problem with that.

Shane was 34-35 years old. At that age, you REALLY can't be delaying fights. You get old overnight. Especially small guys. So, the appeal of the fight diminishes day by day as Shane gets older, slower, etc.

If PBF fought Shane in November, 2006, don't you think that was a BETTER Shane that the one we will see in Summer of 2008? By the time they fight, Shane will be a former lightweight who is just a couple months shy of his 37th birthday.

                    much love.

It is funny after the sixth round. Spaddy is strolling around the ring, and PBF passes out on the canvas.. LMAO.

There's no substitute for being in shape, huh?

I was really in disbelief, Floyd is a wellknown gymrat, matched only by Hopkins in my eyes. I can't believe he was ever out of shape, the boy was born in the gym. Funny video though, and again, thanks for posting it.
