Well, in the American lexicon, when you are big and strong, and coordinated, and can jump high, that is generally considered "athletic".

"smart enough to play sports" is what Americans call "skilled".

You can be both (michael jordan), or athletic but not smart (judah) or just smart/tough but not particularly athletic (larry bird)

Sorry bud, but running around kicking a ball isn't exactly the most demanding thing in the world. Thats probably why its the most popular sport in the world. ANYONE CAN PLAY. Even poor, diseased kids in 3rd world countries.

That guy would have a hard time making it onto an NFL team as a defensive back.

Calvin Johnson or Terrell Owens would run either right past him, or more likely, right THROUGH him.

He's about the size of an NFL kicker. Actually smaller than quite a few.

That's one of the disappointing things about US sports. Small guys don't have a prayer no matter how good they are because small guys don't play sports in the US. Because roles within a team tend to be so specialised in US sports (what with being able to change your team line whenever you wish) the fact is that talented sportsmen are rejected for lack of physicality. As an example the only position in American football which requires intelligence and vision is Quarterback. Every other position requires you to folllow instructions from the coach exactly and to the letter.

Because the need for moments of inspiration are diminished you reduce looking for players to finding guys who can run fast, are tall and are strong.

On a side note a lot of positions in American Football are pretty gay sounding. Like wide reciever or tight-end.

Aw thats cute. I point out that soccer is played by kids suffering from malnutrition and you get whiny. Does someone need a nap?

I'm not saying rugby isn't a tough sport. I'm not saying soccer is easy to play. I'm not saying soccer hooligans aren't dangerous guys. All I'm saying is that American football players are some of the biggest, toughest men in the world. And if you can't recognize that, then you deserve to be stuck watching soccer for the rest of your life. The fact that you consider "soccer hooligans" and rugby players tough says volumes about your overwhelming national pride and your underwhelming intelligence. Good bye.
