I think it was a quick stoppage, but the fight had been settled. It was over. Marquez was out of the fight, he would have been knocked out and hurt worse in about 40 seconds at the most.

BUT, in a big fight like this, and in a very meaningful fight like this, you cant help but want to see the fight settled definitively.

Thats why i would pay SMOGER to referee the next fight. He lets the deal be sealed before he steps in ALWAYS. He would let the fight go on until one of the fighters is done.

The point is that it wasnt brutal enough to the point where it was one sided. Just because the fight is brutal means he shouldve stopped it right then? Why not stop it when Raffy is doing well?

For all of you who keep saying Im a Marquez fan, again you are wrong. I was rooting for Vasquez. This is how fair I am. I still thought that Vasquez wouldve won that fight and would win a rematch but that doesnt mean that I have to agree with the stoppage. Marquez proved far too many times that he could hurt Vasquez and could come back from being hurt. My whole point is that when you fight guys like them then you are going to get hurt in every single fight. Thats a given. That doesnt mean you can stop it everytime. There styles are too take a punch to give one. They will go back & forths with eachother. Again, if it went on then Vasquez couldve finished him in that round but I wouldnt be shocked at all if Marquez wouldve rallied. He deserved that chance. You guys are completely overduing it.

Here's you guys #1 problem. All of you keep talking about Marquez legs but then you talk about the punishment of the fight. Your contradicting yourself. I agree that his legs were shakey but his head was OK. He wasnt that messed up at that time. Alot of times your legs can definatly come back to you in a split second. When your messed up in the head is when you should stop it. Marquez was aware. It had nothing to do with the head shots. Also, you guys are fools for acting like Vasquez D got so much better. That is straight B.S. He didnt do anything different on D. His O just got better. Marquez was still landing on him at will when Vasquez wasnt landing. Marquez was hitting him with vicious combos and nearly dropped him in the 5th. That was B.S., and Ill say it all day.

Please dont make me out to be the barbaric guy either. Anyone who knows me knows that I could care less about these kind of fights and I love watching the sweet science and guys with great D who never get hit. Im not like alot of you. Im fair in everything I say. I like all kinds of fighters and fights. I take everything for what it is and Marquez deserved to go on. The ref paniced and was trigger happy. Again, you guys are trying to make me sound like Im crazy but Bernstein said the same exact thing as me. I echoed his whole opinion. No way should he stop a guy like Marquez in that type of fight where they were getting hit anyway even when they were healthy. You have to give him another few seconds to see how he responds. He deserves that as a Champ and a Warrior

I also do not know how someone who claims to love to watch defensive fighters could not see that Israel Vasquez improved his defensive skill since his last encounter with Rafael Marquez.

Marquez was OUT OF IT. There was no way he was gonna come back at all. The shots he was throwing were LESS then pitter patter.

And HELL YES that Left hook was big. And HELL YES it rocked Marquez. And then right after the knockdown, Vazquez landed 2 more massive Left hooks and thats when Marquez was BADLY hurt.

Anyway, THERES ONE REALLY EASY SOLUTION SO WE DONT GET THIS IN THE THIRD FIGHT!!!!! GET STEVE SMOGER AS THE REFEREE!!!!!

SMOGER my favorite referee and in big and important fights like that one, he lets the matter be fully decided before stepping in.

does it matter wat the ref did, at the end of the day the corner threw in the towel there guy was being battered and there were no complaints so don't chat crap about bad stoppage etc

I'm a little confused why people think the referee was wrong to stop it. Marquez said he was throwing punches back, but he stopped before the referee stopped it. The thing that I saw was Marquez took a shot, and then stumbled back into the ropes. At that point he stopped throwing punches or effectively stopping the shots from coming, and don't give me this Marquez doesn't block punches well anyway bull****, that is not a consideration the referee should have in mind whether he is going to stop the fight or not. Good stoppage in my mind.

It wasnt a punch that made him stumble, it was a slip. Also, like I said before. Its one thing to want a guy to punch back but its another thing to want a guy to punch back non stop. He was punching for a while then he took a break. Give him another second to see if he starts punching again. He's not going to punch non stop while the other guy is. No one does that. You have to recognize it and let it hold for awhile
