There are fights on film even from back in Jack Johnson's day, around 1910, although the quality was poor until the mid-1930's.
do u have any of those fights that you could post up or any links? A lot of people say there's footage and i opened a thread about this in the video section and apparently no one has any videos. I think most people just base SRR on what other people say about him.

I have some DVD's of old Robinson fights, but I don't know of any links to SRR fights offhand. I imagine they do exist on line, though - when I'm searching for videos to watch on line, I'll try to find them.

I bet there's someone here who's more able than myself to find videos online, and would be willing to post some SRR fights in the boxingscene videos forum. Sometimes it takes awhile for people to find the thread in the videos forum, but eventually someone will see it and post some stuff.

Robinson. He had excellent fundamentals. Great hand and foot speed. Great foot work in general. Wonderful and powerful jab. Power in both hands. Could throw any punch with accuracy and power. Had the hooks, the straights, uppercuts. You name it. Good defense, great stamina. Could take a punch. Longevity. He also fought all over the world.. like a WORLD champion is supposed to do.

He had 40 fights before he lost once, and avenged that particular fight by beating Lamotta 4 times. After Lamotta he had another win streak of over 80 PLUS wins before being beaten by Randy Turpin. In his vry next bout he avenged that loss with a TKO.

          He beat....
          Gene Fullmer..
          Carl "Bobo" Olson..
          Carmen Basilio..
Jake Lamotta (4 of 5 times)..
          Kid Marcel..
          Randy Turpin..
          Fritzie Zivic..
          Kid Gavilan..
          Henry Armstrong..

What's more.. He finished with an overall record of.. 173 (KO 108) - 19 (KOed in 1) - 6 Even. Great record for close to 200 fights. And out of his last 30 fights (During a slip, like all boxers go through) He was 22-7-1 (1 NC)

His biggest loss (in my opinion) is to Joey Maxxim. He was a former welterweight and middle weight champion moving up to light heavyweight. He was picking the champion apart in the fight for 13 or so rounds, and finally couldn't make it out of his corner due to heat exhaustion. (No AC, in those days) Had this been a modern fight, I doubt he would have exhausted, and in 12 it would have been over anyway. Regardless, came close to something that only three other people have been able to do. (**** Tiger, Bernard Hopkins, and I forget the third)

GREATEST Fighter That EVER Lived = Sugar Ray Robinson.

(NOTE: If some of these statistics are a BIT off, I apologize. I used boxrec.com, and sometimes, it's hit and miss with them.)

Wow, Yogi. That's great to hear. But what does tht mean- research? Why are these tapes so hard to find?

SteelHammer: You're talking about his middleweight fights with Lamotta, though. Middleweight wasn't even his best division.

              Agreed...wow 1st time for anything.

Robinson...rather Mr. Smith...was the baddest guy that ever walked planet earth.

He had a dream he killed his opponent [Jimmy Doyle] w/a left hook the night before the fight. He told the peeps he wouldnt fight. They promoters had priests come and talk to Mr. Smith to alleviate his thoughts. There is video!
Well wouldnt ya know it...Doyle gets killed by left hook. Tell me of any other fighter that was in tune w/the nether-world and I'll change my pic.

SRL...SSM...ALI...RJj...PBF are all models of Smiths style. Thats ****ing amazing. That 1 guy could impact the best fighters of all time!!!

Dont forget he beat Willy Pep in the Am's too. Add that to any list of W's

I have most of his fights that were filmed...including rare Ams stuff. I got 2 Ams fights of his that were recently discovered. Even a few different version of them. Color and b/w of the Fullmer KTFO. 8 hour documentary on all his fights...etc etc.

I am the oracle on Mr. Robinson. I've studied his record...read his book and have anything I can find on or about him...even the issue of Time magazine from when he beat Basilio to win the title back...framed and sitting on teh wall.

Before you ask...no I wont post his fights here. A few reasons:
                1. The dvds are all full and 4.3/gig. Take days to git that stuff up.
                2. Alot of prix here and no way they see anything of my rare collection.
                3. I would need illmatic points for these fights.
