The problem with that "he beat a prime Hopkins" theory, is that I don't think anyone but you would claim that 27 was Hopkins' prime. As far as Roy being the better man, always ... It's just not proven. They'd need to fight again in order for it to be proven. And I'm not saying he doesn't beat him again. I'm saying, you don't have the proof to back that claim.

By the way.. Sugar Ray Robinson would have ****d and killed Roy Jones in his prime.. HELL.. When he was on the slide, he would have beaten Roy in his prime, if Ray was on an off night.

So you're saying a fight between 23 and 27 year old versions of these fighters means less than them fighting again at 38 and 42 respectively? You're saying that a prime fight like that at the peak of their physical powers means nothing, but instead they have to fight again over a decade later to really find out who the better man is? LOL

C'mon now, if you've actually followed Hopkins' career and seen his old fights from the 90's, then you would know that a 1993 version of Bernard Hopkins actually had an aggressive offense back then. He threw punches and combinations back then instead of relying on one punch and grab maneuvers and dirty tactics like he has been since about 2002. On top of that, Roy BEAT HIM WITH ONE HAND as well because he had had fractured his wrist during the fight in 93, but was still boxing circles around Bernard irregardless.

And no disrespect to SRR, but you mentioned him raping RJJ had they fought. Sorry, but I cannot fathom anyone "raping" RJJ in his prime. Not even the great SRR. Roy was just too talented at an otherworldy level in his prime for him to get whiped out by anyone short of matching him up against a heavyweight. Theoretically I agree a WW version of Robinson would've beat Roy, but the 160lb version of Robinson would've been knocked out by RJJ at that weight.

One small point being that Hopkins was never in his 'Prime' when he was younger. His prime came later on into his career, just like with Lennox Lewis.

Hopkins fought wrecklessly when he was younger. Had a worse defense then he does now, and is smarter in the ring now. He isn't in his prime now. He was in his prime in his 30's though. Not 20's. Possibly, because he started late.

Also, NO. Even a middleweight Robinson beats Jones.. Robinson almost won the LH title OUT of his prime. He would have, had it not been for heat exhaustion. It wasn't a paper champion like John Ruiz either. It was a good quality title holder. Prime.. p4p, Robinson exposes Jones. At middleweight, I'll admit he'd have a tougher time, but not a REAL tough time. Robinson had a great chin. So, for you to assume Jones would knock him out, is crazy to me. I didn't even assume Robinson would knock out Jones, I just said he'd beat him, and pretty badly. I still think he would.

Sorry but I don't think there is anyone that RJJ beat that was close to SRR's level to be able to make that claim. The best person he beat was James Toney by UD and JT is, what, a top 50 p4p?

I'm not selling Roy short. He was a great fighter in his time. But PRIME to PRIME.. Regardless of p4p or MW.. Robinson doesn't lose to Jones. Robinson isn't going to lose to a guy who's there to get hit, can't take pressure, has a soft chin, and had ONLY pretty good pop. Of course, this is my opinion. But for anyone to say he knocks out Robinson, is just CRAZY to me.

lmao more proof that you havent seen roy fight...is ther e to get hit???sure if you can catch him...cant take pressure????roy just has such unbelievable reflexes that even when pinned to the ropes you cant even hit him...he had the power to turn you around and pinn you to the roppes himself, he had one punch KO power...

roy at mw was faster, srtonger, with a less crude style, and in top of all was the bigger guy...
