Back in the 80's I used to go to fights at Cobo arena in Detroit. I remember one time on a Tommy Hearns undercard there was a black British boxer facing a local Michigan white American boxer. The black people in the seats around me were all rooting for the black foreign fighter to beat the local white guy.

I remember being somewhat surprised by that at the time.

Gixxer: Who would cheer for a boxer that represents where you come from. Hello, If he is from your country in my case Island you always go for them, because they are representing said country/island. I was even going for that PR kid who fought PBF eventhough I knew it was a mismatch, his name slips my tongue.

ill support the australian every single time. i think that's how aussies are. around here alot of journos talk about how the whole country hates leyton hewitt until he's on the tennis court. as far as race goes.. i can honestly say it has no influence on who i support.

This is why mexicant's get so much hate, because they brag about a big "country" that has alot of boxers. Dude, you have no choice, there are to many of ya and all of ya have the "Napoleon Complice" ya think that by fighting you'll change your status. It's never going to change homie. Now you want to give credit, give credit to a little ass island that has produced great fighters in quality not quantity.

            ok guy whatever....

when i got to America from the Phillipines ... the first sport i got into was boxing...and who else was on the screen....Iron Mike Tyson

He was my fav with those KO's....there were no Filipino boxers at the time...

but I root for Winky cuz he's from Florida, Taylor cuz that's how I jab, Morales cuz has good fights, Not Gatti cuz he's not a great fighter (great fights though), and Pacman cuz he's the best and he's from Philippines..

The race thing plays a factor but not always

I think Pride has alot to do with it. Especially when your country is a third world country or a poverty stricken country. Which is great, because it gives us pride seeing a local become world champion(and rich), especially when he is the underdog.

Does that mean you don't support DLH??

Anyway, to the thread topic. Yeah it's cool to cheer for the homeboy, but, I myself root for a few other fighters w/ the same passion that I have for a fighter that has the same ethnic background as I do. But if it comes down to my fellow countryman fighting one of my fave fighter's who doesn't share the same ethnicity then I root for the homeboy. Generally, I'm just a boxing/muay thai whore!! And you can throw in some MMA in there as well(haha).

Some fans do take it to a whole new sc*mbag level though. If my fellow countryman fails in his fight, hats off to his opponent. Another day, another fight.
