Gatti's fights transcend the sport, just as Braddock's come-back from career death transcended the sport. Statistics can't be your only basis for admittance. This ain't baseball.

To be clear: you are saying that Gatti was "often" taking a "massive beating" from mediocre fighters.

So did Jim Braddock. Should Jim Braddock be in the hall of fame?

It was back during the time of the Great Depression. Jim Braddock had to win these fights in order to feed his family when doubt was really heavy on him. It wasn't necessarily about winning a championship.

When we discuss boxers of the past, we discuss "who did he beat, who beat him, and how he did against so-and-so". Right?

            LaMotta-Robinson
            Schmeling-Louis
            Frazier-Ali
            etc...

That is the nature of this sport that we love. What was the in-ring performance? Who are the greats? Who pulled off a stunning upset?

OK. "Scrub" is too harsh a word to use about Gatti. Granted. But the man was never competitive with even a B-level fighter. Never beat a good fighter. And was beaten by fighters who will never be remembered.

His exciting fights were vs guys who are very mediocre. Four or five exciting fights against C-level competition are not enough for a ticket to Canastota, IMO.

            Sorry.

Did Jim Braddock ever beat a great fighter? Did Arturo?

i agree with you Jim Bradock won fight in a time of depression and he was representing the people. he was representing the hope that thing are going to be alright that is why he is so great.

seen the movie " The Cindrella Man" and you understand what type of person id Jim Bradock.

maybe Gatti represent similar to Jim Bradock in was the peopel sometimes in that fight though he was down and that he was going to lose and come back with a KO win.

As for Gatti he was exicting but there are many HOF that i never know about so why not Gatti. anyway look at how many FOTY Gatti made does this not mean anything.

I think it'd be scary fighting someone who killed 2 people in the ring... Well 1, technically 2 though. Tommy Farr was decent too.. But no Braddock did not beat anyone phenomenal, read my previous post though.

Braddock beat a Hall of Famer.

                      Not all HOFers are phenomenal.
