Where are all the "Gatti for the Hall of Fame" people now?

Well amongst friends of mine it is a common reason for getting into boxing - it is a different setup in the UK and PPVs don't matter as much.

I'd say that Hamed was the driving force behind boxing support in the UK after Eubank and Benn, then it all went a bit quiet. The Gatti Ward trilogy were the only fights outside the heavies that got repeat broadcast over here and understandably got peoples attention.

Things are a bit different around the globe - for instance DLH is pretty much unknown over here (he's better known now because of a game cover!)

Tell me about it. I went back home last week. I was inundated with Pan Am Games and beisbol...but couldn't find coverage of the boxing matches anywhere.

I think if Bobby Chacon is in, Gatti is in, they very similar fighter just from different coasts of the US. Chacon is also a 2 time titlist like Gatti

I tried reading through the entire thread before responding, but had to stop here. My apologies if it were already addressed...

They're similar fighters in that they were both exciting. Where they differ is that Chacon was exciting against - and even occasionally defeated - great fighters. Gatti was exciting against mediocre-to-good fighters, and was treated like a human mop on the few occasions he fought top shelf fighters.

Yeah, I've seen the first fight several times. The trilogy is overrated, but the first fight was a classic.

That trilogy IS overrated. Barrera/Morales meant something. They didn't like each other, and they were fighting for supremacy of the weight class and for the hearts of their countrymen.

Gatti-Ward? Not that meaningful. But still entertaining.
