And Floyd Mayweather is not better known to the American public than David Beckham or Freddy Adu.

Beckham's welcome here has been a media bonanza. Let's hope he's in form when he gets on the field, because America will be watching. I can't wait to see him link up with the wonderboy Landon.

Not one of the best. THE best. It's not even an argument.

As for the US stuff I say no way. No one cares about Beckham. He's getting his shine now but thats just because the hype. I think he's more of a media star then a Soccer star over here. They just want to see his Wife and all that other stuff. I do think people will tune in for his first few games but it wont last long. Also, isnt he past his prime? He also was never one of the super elite anyway, right? I know he's the most popular but never been considered as a #1 guy, right?

I do think he could have some effect on little kids wanting to play and that might have some effect on the next generation but not us. Even when he came over here last time no one cared. He didnt play or nothing but they made a big thing over here about who he was and they were asking him does he think he could make Americans care about Soccer. Really, he was gone before he could even answer. It will never pass Baseball, Football, or Basketball over here and it will be lucky if its ever even 4th

Beckham is a fantastic footballer, has seen better days but is still fantastic. He's joined LA Galaxy to settle down in an English speaking country, and no doubt he'll made a **** load of money there. Although lets be honest, the main reason he joined is because he thought he wouldn't be getting much more football at international level as McClaren had dropped him (like the idiot he is) and Capello dropped him... during this time he signed for Galaxy, but afterwards, he was recalled to both club and country because of his excellent form.

Beckham is obviously a bigger star in England than Hatton as football is the number one sport, always has been. America is developing well and waking up to the real world where football is the main sport. However, they need to understand that following your team is everything, you don't turn up to a match to support the sport, you turn up to support your team. Also, the day you people start calling it 'football' is the day that you have truly woken up to the real world

Tim Howard and Brad Freidl, but of course we've always been strong at keeper

Jay Demeritt was one of the first names on Watford's sheet every week.

        Cory Gibbs was at Charlton

Marcus Hahnemann at Reading (another keeper)

Jonathan Spector has been around and is currently owned by West Ham I believe

The Utd. striker Rossi is really a Yank and played over here, although he opted to play in the Italian national program instead.

        Beasley just signed with Rangers

Eddie Johnson is rumored to be signing with a Championship squad.

Oguchi Onyewu was somewhere in England for a bit last year.

Now that little Freddy is 18 and can get a permit, he'll end up in Englan before year's end most likely. He wants to go to Chelsea but Jose isn't interested. SAF has had him in for training and is interested.

er..... yeah! like i said, theres quite a few yankee players in the English leagues! Which idiot said there was only two!

        - actually we have a yank in my teams line up. (Thats Sheffield Wednesday). When Frank Simek does something good everyone starts chanting "USA USA US-A USA!" haha. He ain't a bad player either - i think he's got a couple of caps in your national team.

i watched on the tele. Beckhams a brilliant player at what he does.

But he's not a prolific goal scorer, i hope they don't expect him to be ****ing in 2 a game.

I forgot about Simek. He does have a few caps but he flew under the radar coming through the U.S. system. We're finally at the point where the top Yanks get recruited into the youth systems by Eurpean clubs. When I was a kid they were still wasting away on college teams. Even Claudio (he was football Jesus as a kid here) went to college before Bayern stepped in to give him his real education.

The casual observer will expect that and will be disappointed.

But really all he needs to do is hit some classic freekicks and make the highlight reeels regularly. Galaxy are even a poor team at the moment.

That's what I'm worried about too, I had to explain to some of my friends that he is a support player, controlling the momentum and the pace of the game. He's not going to dribble past players and score a hat trick every game that's not his style.

I agree with you on that. He's more of a media sensation here than anything. The tabloids and gossip columns are going to love him, but your right people will watch for a little while here in the US, but then it will slowly die out. Even though a lot of younger kids are starting to play soccer and it could effect them, but he's only gonna make an impact for a little while on the field. Off the field though he'll probably make a bigger impact.

Beckham was never the best player in the world, but in his last couple of seasons with Manchester United (and his first with Real Madrid) he was one of the best players around.

Despite being a bit of a pretty boy, Beckham puts in a hell of a lot of work on the field.
