Mayweather fights for money and roy does too but its apparent that mayweather does it just for the money. The guy retired at 31? Come on, he's full of **** and we all know it. He's simply holdin out until he can find a big fight. Hes not like a true champion should be holdin down his class. All the greats did that. They fought the toughest fights out there. You look at him now-gonna fight Ricky Hatton ? What the hell? We all know he will dominate, and the public demands him to fight Sugar Shane Mosley. Look at the 2.....they match up way better and mosley is just as fast and definitely stronger and also beat de la hoya twice. And he was by far the best fighter mayweather has ever fought til this date. And it wasn't a split dec. either. Mayweather says O I dont wanna fight a sparring partner? Thats bull crap.....lol. Roy Fought all the big names and he did it handily. So before you get on here, please know what you're talkin about people.
Both of these guys have flaws in their careers, but right now I surely will take Mayweather over RJJ. Yes RJJ has done some amazing things in his career winning MW, SMW, LHW, HW titles. But objectively look at who he has beaten and how they looked on that night. RJJ has one solid win over a great opponent James Toney. He fought Hopkins when he was still developing(and don't say he was 20-0 b/c clearly he is a late bloomer) and other than that who did he beat...the best other names are Virgil Hill (capable but not great when RJ fought him) and Mike McCallum when he was also past his prime? He won the HW title from a man that he cherry picked because he knew he could beat him. Realistically if he fought Holyfield or any of the other title holders he probably would have lost. He fought construction workers and police officers and in the end he got KO'd by Tarver and Glen Johnson. Mayweather may not have beaten anybody as good as James Toney but he did beat a prime undefeated Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Jesus Chavex, and Genero Hernandez. He beat Judah and DLH while they were still quite capable fighters. IF he does come back and defeats Ricky Hatton he will have beaten another undefeated champion that many rank in their top 20 p4p. Sugar Shane Mosley is a great fighter no doubt but plenty of other people think he is old and over the hill and would rather see Mayweather fight someone in their prime. In the end RJJ avoided big fights against great opponents much more than Mayweather...Calzaghe, Michalczewski, rematch with Hopkins. Like I said at the beginning we can fault both of these guys for the same thing but Mayweather at worst fights ex-champs on losing streaks rather than policemen on winning streaks.

You also have to mention that Jones fought other very capable champions like Reggie Johnson, Eric Harding, Sugar Boy Malinga and Jorge Castro.

Both guys had spectacular careers...it's pretty hard to say who was better. Roy dominated the bigger names, Floyd still has the undefeated aura.

Very fair assessment. No arguments here. Both had great careers although I think both could have (or still can) do more.

That's why it's so hard to stomach talk of Floyd retiring. He has so many great things he could still go out and do. Fights with Mosley and Cotto would undoubtedly be fantastic match ups. After watching Taylor/Spinks I would like to see Floyd even try to go up to 160 and fight Taylor at a catch weight. Even though Taylor states that he's moving up, Floyd could still come in light as he did against DLH. Taylor would grossly outweigh him anyway you look at it.

Floyd still has room to enhance his already great career. We have seen the best of Roy...I don't think he'll ever do much more outside of winning another minor title. A Hopkins rematch would be nice provided both guys win their upcoming fights. An indirect passing of the torch fight with Dawson could be nice, although I couldn't see Roy beating Dawson now.
