Claiming Taylor, a top 5 pound for pound fighter, has no chance against a guy whose best win is Edison "Overrated" Miranda is ludicrous. You will look really bad if Pavlik loses.
Taylor Has No Chance Against Pavlik

I think Pavlik is a good fighter and exciting as hell, but I could see Taylor beating him fairly easily if he is in shape. I'm hoping JT gets motivated by all the **** being said about him and fights to his potential because otherwise Pavlik has what it takes to beat him. I think some people are just getting caught up in the hype of Pavlik and hate of Taylor to say that JT has no chance.Comment

I agree. That's pretty goddamn extreme.
Anyway, Taylor wins this one. He's gonna win it with that jab. In his last fight, Pavlik did not look as good as Miranda looked bad. I always said Miranda was overrated, and he LOOKED a bit drained. Also, Miranda just appears to be heavily flawed, that is he cant fight going backwards. People think that because he destroyed Miranda that he will destroy Taylor. Two COMPLETELY different fights imo.Comment

Taylor has a chance but I definitely would favor Pavlik. The mere fact that any ranking system that can put a protected fighter like Taylor in any top 10 pound for pound flist shows just what how bad boxing's ranking system has become. Taylor has been given so many gift decisions since winning the title and most of those were against fighters in smaller weight divisions. How about beating a few in their prime middleweights decisively before putting him on any list. Top 5 as middleweight maybe but pound for pound come on, if that's the case how come Butterbean isn't on that list?Comment

people are overrating taylor's boxing "ability". hes not elusive like willie pep, he doesnt box and move like ali, he doesnt have power like louis, and he doesnt have jake lamotta's chin. the only thing really outstanding about taylor is his athleticism. honestly, from the time taylor won the title (in highly controversial and unimpressive fashion) until now, who has really been impressed by jermain taylor?
he beat hopkins = hopkins waited too long to go offensive.
draw with winky = winky didnt apply enough pressure.
win over ouma = a much smaller jr middleweight actually pressured the "champion" into the ropes and gave taylor a real fight when taylor was looking for a knockout opponent.
win over spinks = one of the worst fights i have ever seen, period. 'nuf said.
taylor has gotten this far on athleticism and HBO money, nothing more. even the guys who he was supposed to blow over (spinks and ouma) made him look the fool. he cant punch, he cant box, hes flat-footed, he doesnt move his head, he doesnt throw combinations, he doesnt move around, he doesnt exploit an opponents weakness, he doesnt even go into a fight with a goddamn gameplan (besides trying to knock ouma out).
and this guy is supposed to outbox and decision kelly pavlik? yeah, good one.
dont even try to say "taylor fights the better fighters". in their contender phases, pavlik fought fulgencio zuniga, bronco mckart, and jose luis zertuche. not great fighters, but top 20 MWs who never before were stopped. oh yeah, and pavlik beat this guy called edison miranda, a fighter who people were saying "hes unstoppable" adn "one touch and you're out", a fight he was expected to lose. the best guys taylor fought when he was a contender was an old beat up raul marquez and a never-has-been title-holder william joppy. spoon fed his whole career.
pavlik is the all around better fighter. theres nothing jermain taylor can do to beat pavlik. he cant outbox him and he damn sure cant outpunch him. all it takes is a small breeze to back taylor into the ropes. and punishing his opponents on the ropes is kelly pavlik's bread and butter. even if taylor tried to tie pavlik up, pavlik is bigger, stronger, and unlike taylor, he can fight on the inside.
pavlik by TKO. this fight isnt even close.
If Pavlik uses the strategy against Taylor as he used against Miranda, I think the same result will occur. Taylor has shown that he doesn't like being pressured and will retreat into the ropes with his hands down. This plays right into Pavlik's strength thus giving him the style advantage.Comment

Its not crazy to think Pavlik would win. I dont think hes just some contender. I think he is actually really good. He just isnt going to be as good as Jermain Taylor will be that night. I truly believe Taylor will finally live up to the hype.Comment

Pavlik wins a slugfest with Miranda and all of a sudden he has the "skills" to beat a top fighter. Say what u will about Taylor he has fought and he has won. Here lately people seem to be obsessed with if a fighter doesnt blow out his opponent then he must not be good. U cant knock out everyone. i saw the Pavlik and Miranda fight and if Miranda had knocked Pavlik out(which he could have b/c he has Pavlik hurt several times as well) would u still give Pavlik the same chances of beating taylor? Taylor wont outbox Pavlik? man please! Spinks would make Pavlike look really bad b/c he just walks in. Walking in on Taylor would be a big mistake for Pavlik since he doesnt have a sturdy defense like Wright. Taylor late KOComment

I think everyone is assuming that if it goes the distance, Taylor will win. I just don't think thats the case.Comment
