Mayweather has no business being in that list. He lost to Castillo the first time around. PBF has had no career defining fights and has fought old men and bums his entire career.
Just incase you forgot Mayweather = black Ottke
Just incase you forgot,
1) Fighting unbeatean diego corrales who people said floyd was ducking, to decide who the man was at 130 thats a carrer defining fight.
2) Fighting Joe Luis Castillo in your 1st fight at 135 for the World title, is a carrer defining fight
3) Fighting Genaro Hernandez for the WBC title, a guy who made lots of defences, at the age of 21 years old, is a carrer defining fight.
4) Weighing 148 pounds and fighting a near 160 pound Oscar De La Hoya for a world title in your 1st fight at junior middle, is a carrer defining fight.
1) Losing against Joe Luis Castillo in your 1st fight at 135 for the World title, is a career defining fight
2) Fighting Genaro Hernandez for the WBC title, a guy who made lots of defences against bums, at the age of 21 years old, is a career defining fight.
3) Weighing 148 pounds and fighting a near 160 pound Oscar De La Hoya for a world title in your 1st fight at junior middle and completing a world record 81 laps of the ring, is a career defining fight.
Then you must be the only person on earth who doesnt think fighting a 6 weight world champion, for a world title, for the 1st time at 154, in what turned out to be the biggest selling PPV of all time,..........a carrer defining fight.
Ermm no because Jermaine Taylor was nowhere near anyones P4P list in 2000. lol. So thats the first of your boxing arguements which doesnt make sense to me.
"Are you trying to claim that Bernard Hopkins and Jermaine Taylor have not been in the top 10 P4P list for the best part of the past 7 years?" BEST PART of the past 7 years. I believe that Hopkins was P4P top 10 for pretty much ALL of those 7 years. Taylor on the other hand shot into the P4P top 10 with his victory over Bernard Hopkins 2 years ago (which immediately catapulted him to Ring Magazine's P4P number 1). I think that its a fair enough general statement to say that between them they've been on for the best part of the last 7 years.
Im not sure how much you know about boxing, but im sure we are now going to find out.
Calzaghe is a world class fighter, beating Hopkins/Wright solidfies that, in my opinion it doesnt make him a great fighter, in my opinion, even if taylor ducks him, which is such a ******ed arguement when you consider the fighters that taylor has fought. lol. but lets run with it for a laugh, here's why it doesnt make him a true great,
Simply because of the following
1) It means he would have only beaten one fighter ranked the p4p list, which is hopkins, no Lacy was not a p4p as far as i know, eubanks i dont think so either but you get the picture.
Two P4P fighters (you seem to be deleting Taylor from memory as though I said that there was no way that they'd fight) as well as two highly rated fighters, as well as a slew of fighters with strong credentials. Perhaps you underrate quite a lot of fighters, for example Eubank when he fought Calzaghe would be a force to be contended with in the current division.
2) It means he spent his whole carrer in one of the worst divisions in modern boxing, super middleweights is a shocking divison compared to 147,130,140, even 160., unless you wanna tell me these great prime fighters that were at 168 when JC was around, Ottke did duck him, no ottke was never a great.
Maybe I'm not as cynical as you, but I dont believe that the plight of your division should necessarily take away from your accomplishments. Tszyu never moved up, but I think that he was a great fighter. The Heavyweight division wasnt great while Lewis was fighting there...but he was a great boxer.
3) It would mean in a carrer spanning something like 10 years, he has had 2 carrer defining fights. compare that to someone like De La Hoya, Mayweather, Ray Leonard and some of the other true greats, how many carrer defining fights have they had? Alot. lol.
Again, you are electing to disregard somethings. For example, Lacy WAS a career defining fight. Kessler WILL be a career defining fight. The winner of Hopkins and Wright WILL be a career defining fight. Taylor WOULD be a career defining fight. Thats 4. Furthermore, yes De La Hoya had more...but he ****ing lost most of them. Calzaghe winning his 4 would be more impressive to me. Yes Sugar Ray Leonard had more...but then he ******ly went on and fought too long, retiring undefeated would've been a lot more impressive (again, I must stress that I AM NOT claiming that Calzaghe ought to be ranked higher in the all-time list than De La Hoya or Ray Leonard if he accomplishes that I am talking about). As for Mayweather...really? How many career-defining fights do you think he has had? But yet again, I've never claimed that Calzaghe ought to go down in history as a better fighter than Mayweather, however if Calzaghe takes Kessler, Wright/Hopkins and Taylor, it could certainly be argued that he faced better top fighters than Mayweather did.
is fighting a guy who lost 3 out of 5 of his last fights a career defining fight? He didn`t dominate DLH, in fact I had the fight in DLH's favour going into the last quarter, except DLH's age showed and he couldn't maintain that pace.
Did Danny Williams' victory over Mike Tyson define his career?
I can`t see past the fact that Floyd lost to Castillo in their first fight, and has failed to impress on any level each and every time I watch his fights.
He bores his way to winning, and disputed wins at that.
He is a boring fighter and is not on the same level as a SRL
Then you must be the only person on earth who doesnt think fighting a 6 weight world champion, for a world title, for the 1st time at 154, in what turned out to be the biggest selling PPV of all time,..........a carrer defining fight.
Good luck with the operation.
