The way Floyd has won is not enough. He got a SD against a past his prime, borderline great fighter. He did not press the fight enough or stand his ground. He won, and it was a good win, but nothing spectacular.

His spectacular performances happened at lower weights.

I don't care about ranking Floyd...except to say that he could be as high as top 20 and as low as top 50.

Winning is all that matters. If you want him to fight a different way, you need to find a fighter who can force him to fight a different fight. Why change what got you to the top?

Considering that he has won numerous titles and is undefeated; I would put him inside the top 100. He is not even close to being the greatest of all time so that talk needs to disappear real quick. In terms of overall work and opponents faced against his contemporaries his resume falls behind Trinidad,Hopkins,De La hoya. His resume resembles more Roy Jones than it does Sugar Ray Robinson.

Obviously it seems that people are forgetting that boxing existed before Mayweather arrived on the scene. Just reading some of the posts about Mayweather in the top 10 and 20 of all time is making my head spin like the exorcist. This is not about the best fighter in the past 10 yrs it's about in the history of boxing. If you really believe that he belongs among the giants and legends of boxing that are still talked about today then you need to immerse yourself in some Boxing 101.

i don't place him in the all time great category. mainly for the reason the he's retiring to try and make himself an all time great without fighting any great fights.

Floyd's had great performances where he out classes his opponent and he's done some extraordinary things inside the ring, but when has mayweather ever had a great fight? a action packed fight where you see drama and the fighting is a see saw battle? there has been only one fight that floyd looked like he could've lost and that wasn't even an exciting fight! ( more a clinching in close up against the ropes fight for the entire fight )

thing is floyd has done great things in the ring, some of his opponents and some of his fights have been questionable, there is a string of names on his resume where the guys he was fighting didn't have a chance other than a lucky punch of a chance.

all the greats, the guys who are universally considered great have had serious dramatic fights. Ali had dozens of them, Ray Robinson had dozens of them, Ray Leonard had a bunch of great fights, etc. get the picture.

just because floyds outclassed guys doesn't make him an all time great, to me it makes me think he needs to take harder fights, and if he can outclass all of his toughest tasks or win in decisive fashion, then he can break into the all time great list.

floyd can't be considered a great without fighting any and everyone. retiring now makes it impossible for me to even put him in the list of TRUE GREATS.

if floyd wants to be great he needs to beat all the top dudes in the game right now, or tough guys right now.

floyd needs these names on his resume before he retires to be considered great: Hatton, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Cotto, maybe Paul Williams?, and maybe Travis Simms........... but wins over the first five on the list would be enough. and none of this, nobody knows this guy and the money isnt there, if floyd is the man, then beat them and prove it. retiring now just leaves a big what if in his career, not an ALL TIME GREAT...........................

Hindsight is huge when judging champions and all time greats. In time we'll see how the rest of Floyd's opponents play out and if he comes back to see who he fights. Easily top 20 but comprising all time lists is extremely dificult.
