What is it about him that doesn't make him Mexican or makes Mexicans not like him? If I was Mexican I would be proud to have a wealthy, well spoken and good mannered dude represent me because he breaks the stereotype of a typical Mexican. I noticed with alot of my Mex. that if you don't act a certain way or dress or "act Mexican " they cast you out or shun you.. Either way, Oscar is American before he is Mexican.
Are the Mexicans adopting DLH for this one?

Yup, Thats hella true!Man, mexicans will find any reason to hate on someone. "Hes too light" "Hes too dark" "He speaks to well" etc etc. Its just like black folks, we always try to say someone is real, and someone aint real, if you speak like this, you aint black enough, you look like that, you aint black enough etc. I know what im saying aint gonna be too popular, but i find it to be very true in blacks and mexicans alike.Comment

My brothers in law, their friends and my wife all are rooting for him. I kinda thought that after he shut Vargas up, more mexican fans started liking him. Of course, I'm talking mexican-american and not south of the border mexicans. I have no clue what the hell they think.Comment

I'm not Mexican but I'm hispanic and have mexican friends. The feeling I have is not so much how DLH speaks that is unliked, because many mexican champs have been respectful and spoke softly. I believe it was more a combination of his fighting style and being on the US olympic boxing team.
If DLH had either fought for mexico or had a more traditional mexican fighting style and not quite as "pretty", elusive, low risk style I believe he would've been accepted more by mexicans. DLH often fought low risk fights where he would be content to just win rounds. This was/is in stark contrast to traditonal mexican fighting philosophy which has been the willingness to risk taking one to give one.Comment

when i seen 'Beyond Glory' of Roberto Duran most people are hypocrite. when he lost agains SRL by quiting nobody supported him only his family and closed true friends.
In this life most of these boxer fighter already know they have someone who they could depend on and it is not the PR nor the mexician fans for DHL.
it quit intersting Vargas is from US but he seemed like he forgot his passport somewhere something like that alway tell where the loyalies lies for each person and for God damnt Oscar accomplish the Americain Dream that most Mexician really want to see for themselvesComment

The only reason some mexicans dont like oscar is because he beat chavez so stop adding other reasons to it,I always liked oscar I could give a **** if he beat chavez.Comment

I hate it when people say he is not mexican,or mexicans dont support him.I agree with one poster here that we should be proud of having a wealthy, well spoken intelligent boxer represent us.I identefy myself with oscar as I too was born L.A with both my parents being born in mexico.I also try to dress properly (not like the "cholos" or cowboys) more like slacks dress shirts, dress shoes ect..I try to speak properly, and be respectful and the best citizen i can be.I am also proud of being born here, but also proud of having mexican roots.I think us mexicans should try to be like that so people dont have the ugly stereotype they have about us.If we want to succeed in this country and be respected we have to change our ways.Anyways everybody sees me as a mexican. If I am mexican then so is oscar.Comment

Yeah, and all you have to do is look at the last rounds of the Trinidad fight to see it wasn't close to a Mexican style.I'm not Mexican but I'm hispanic and have mexican friends. The feeling I have is not so much how DLH speaks that is unliked, because many mexican champs have been respectful and spoke softly. I believe it was more a combination of his fighting style and being on the US olympic boxing team.
