Actually this is not true, you can have a paper belt like calzaghe and defended against bunch of cab drivers.

Hopkins also didn't fought too many great fighters with his 20 title defenses, it's def much better then Cal but still nothing special.

if you stay in one class, you can fight cab drivers. If you move up you have to find a beltholder

No, Calzaghe isn't more accomplished than SRR, but if you win 5 weight class titles but neither of them came from the lineal champion, the 20 defenses are better, simple as.
Calzaghe never beat a champion, let alone a lineal champion, to claim his title. Does that make his 20 defenses worthless?

Exactly. I don't see how 20 straight defenses is more impressive unless it's against consistently great opposition. Hopkins fought solid oppositiion, but his resume isn't that great. Calzaghe's resume is a total joke...

lol you could fight 17 bums like Hopkins and Calzaghe, so that means absolutely nothing. to win 5 titles in 5 weight classes means you at least beat decent fighters because they are "champions" after all. plus, you proved you could win at more than one weight. who the hell would pick 20 title defenses lol

This thread is the most intellectual boxing converse in the entire history of the sport.

$iN and Diego****o are two of the most highbrow posters you'll ever meet.

                  Well done to all involved.

Moving up in weight in itself is impressive. Only the true greats can move up in weight and be successful. We already saw a pretender like Hatton struggle just 7 pounds up while a true legend like Mayweather keeps handing people their ass 24 pounds above his first weight class. There is nothing more impressive in boxing than moving up 5 divisions and beating champions...

that's a good point. Mayweather only struggled once in his career, but he was fighting as a lightweight for the first time against one of the biggest lightweights you'll ever see WITH an injured shoulder. What's Hatton's excuse for getting handled by Collazo in many rounds and winning by a round or two?
