Granted with Wlad he wouldn't have the time as he had against Toney to pick his shots and he would have to worry about Wlad's power, but Peter has improved. And I was one of his biggest critics following the Wlad fight and subsequent bouts against Hawkins and Long.

Come On Guys... His status is based on getting better against a Guy he out reached and could not hurt him...A guy who is 37 years OLD Fat.. and about 3-4 years away from his last REAL good fight..
I actually Like Sam Peter.. But the guy wont be able to BOX against a Guy like Rahman, Either Kilts.. or even Maskaev... He dont have the Reach to play JAB JAB with these guys.. and They would have the power to hurt him if he tries.. SO its back to clubbing and hoping for the home run... Sam Peter is what he is... beating up a washed up middle weight cant change that..

at other times when Peter was beating up no-name tomato cans, he didn't box at all. Granted he won't be given the same luxury against harder hitters, but Peter at least showed he could adjust and be able to fight and adapt his style.

They just need to get the best in with the best for a few fights and it would actually be watchable again.

I do like the trend of young prospects fighting each other now, before they get to like 30 fights.

oh my man my faith is in Povetkin and to a lesser extent Briggs. I know the later is a fleeting case, but hey he was my first main event when I was younger.

              Toney vs. Batchelder

Speaking of James Toney, it was announced today that he will face Danny Batchelder on Thursday, May 24. Toney loves the sport of boxing, he couldn't wait until his scheduled September fight, he just HAD to fight in a "stay active" bout in the meantime. Batchelder's a fairly tough journeyman, not a tomato can, so he might even give the aging Toney some problems.

exactly. he boxed that way with shufford and pudar,,,,but people seem to forget he was simply out of shape when he faced toney the first time and just couldnt box with wlad so was forced to slug it out. peter is never going to be anymore than he is. a strong guy with heavy hands but with a lack of boxing talent

no,,,welter was spot on with his analysis. the peter that fought toney the second time was the same peter that lost to wlad. he was simply in better shape than he was the first time he fought toney. watch his fights with pudar and shufford. he has a jab and throws in combos when he has guys that are right in front of him. put him in with a tall rangy guy with a very good jab and you'll get the same peter every time. he just doesnt have the talent to cope with a good jabber with some movement and speed. you'll see this if and when he steps up against a vit or wlad again.

I'll admit I haven't seen the Pudar or Shufford fights, but his footwork and combos were better against a solid boxer in Toney and from what I have seen in 7 of his fights that he has improved since.

                      Maskaev will test Peter

Well, we'll know more about Peter after he fights Maskaev, a tough veteran who has some decent boxing skills and can hit hard.
