The Heavyweight Division is Getting Better!

The heavyweight division has been improving in recent months, and here's some reasons why I think so:

    1) The return of Vitali, and his fighting the winner of the Peter-Maskaev fight later this year.

    2) The improvement of Wladimir Klitschko since he's been working with Manny Steward the last couple of years, and the upcoming fight between he and Brewster.

    3) The new talent, such as Chambers, Povetkin, Dimitrenko and Boytsov. The potential of young up and coming boxers such as Greenberg, Chapman, Witherspoon and others.

    4) The new titleholder Ruslan Chagaev - undefeated as a pro, after an excellent amateur record.

    5) The improvement of Samuel Peter, evident in the difference in his two fights with James Toney.

    6) David Haye fighting at heavyweight.

    7) Sultan Ibragimov, former Olympic Silver Medalist, becoming WBO champion, undefeated as a pro.

    8) There still remaining a lot of tough veterans such as Rahman, Brock, Brewster, Bryd, Krasniqi and others.

Excellent post. I couldn't agree more. Have some good K.

The one thing I have to add though, is that there will undoubtedly be haters with the new influx of eastern European talent. I, however, think it's refreshing to see such an ecelctic pool of fighters making the division that much more exciting. People need to realize that there is a world beyond the US in respect to professional boxing.

Yes, it will probably take some people awhile to get used to the eastern European top heavyweights, and there will continue to be some negativity expressed.

IMO the current international diversity makes it more interesting.

ive been paying more attention lately, and while it is still pretty weak, there are a number of guys that could potentially win a belt.

          Good Post hard to disagree
          Except with Point 5

Sam Peter is a ****ing Bum.. who is way overated for beating a 5'9'' fat middle weight with zero power who was also way overated and ranked way too high for his heavyweight acheivments(hello Don King)
The guy is a serious ****ing chump...

the heavies have been slowly getting better for some time. That can be attributed to the Euro influx of talent and recently the young Americans finally willing to step up and fight each other. Also now that Chagaev is the WBA champ, King only has control of one belt (WBO). So maybe there is a correlation there, maybe not, but with much of the talent in the division not belonging to King, better fights can be made. The problem is, guys like Liakhovich and Briggs belong to King and whether people like to admit it or not, both are upper-echelon fighters. And young talented or tough guys like Mike Mollo, Bermane Stiverne, and now Kertson Manswell belong to King. And Stiverne and Manswell are talented fighters.

I think the division is pretty good. There just needs to be a unification of some sort.

Welter my man, I expect more from you than this. Seriously, there is a big difference between the Peter we saw fight Klitschko and the Peter we saw fight Toney the 2nd time. Granted with Wlad he wouldn't have the time as he had against Toney to pick his shots and he would have to worry about Wlad's power, but Peter has improved. And I was one of his biggest critics following the Wlad fight and subsequent bouts against Hawkins and Long.

I think Toney made him better. Peter was forced to work on his boxing skill because he couldnt just knock Toney out. Its easy to see that Peter has improved a lot since the first Toney fight. Theres a reason Maskaev wanted to fight Vitali more than Peter.
