I really didn't think it was too good of a showcase for MMA.Most of the fights were pretty boring IMO.But yes I agree,it would be nice to see boxing do something similiar.

Over here in UK, all Calzaghe's fights are shown live and free on ITV and he is a P4P fighter and the DLH vs PBF is live and free in UK on Sky Sports 1! So boxing is getting good free promotion with top boxers in UK!

You're taking this topic in a totally different direction. SPIKE T.V , if you live in the U.S. generally falls under basic cable, if a consumer wants HBO added, you have to have a cable box and you pay extra, HBO is what is considered a premium channel. SPIKE, ESPN, ESPN2, FOXSPORTS, and so on fall under basic cable. Have you seen any of the current Top 10 P4P fighters fight on regular cable(re-runs not included). The debate is not PPV vs. regular HBO or Showtime fights. It's regular cable vs. premium cable. CRO COP's status prior to last Saturday night's debacle is comparable to someone who would be considered a top 10 p4p boxer.

yeah, there's a reason boxing's not on basic cable. because unlike ufc, people will actually pay to watch it.

i miss when you were chased off this site like an *******.

DLH/Mayweather is going to **** all over any of the MMA ppvs from this year anyway. Im a casual fan of MMA, Im just tired of this "taking over boxing" ****.

The high kick landed on Crocop was the highlight of the show. Other than that, there were two pretty good matches, and two very boring ones.

Saturday night's UFC special from Manchester, England was a treat for fans who are fans of the MMA/contact sports in general. How often do we see a current P4P Top 10 boxer on basic cable ? Cro Cop prior to losing was considered by many as a premier top 10 heavyweight. Boxing will have to make some similar moves, because DLH ain't gonna be around much longer, Mayweather is hinting at retiring, PAC(the most electrifying fighter today, but doesn't have the support of the Mexican fans, unless PAC is fighting a Mexican). After those names who else do we have. Boxing needs to step up its promotional game , and keep pace w/ the snowballing UFC.
so pacquiao, mayweather, and de la hoya are the only big names in boxing?

you obviously don't watch much boxing.

and btw, did the nba collapse after magic johnson retired? or larry bird, olajuwan, jordan, robinson, etc.

                  no, it didn't.

having said that, it would be nice to get some more big name fights on regular cable. the greed of many fighters and nearly all promoters limits certain avenues from being utilized. not to mention that hbo and showtime sign certain fighters to exclusive television contracts.

What are you talking about? Did you watch all the fights? That showcase was garbage... I had to watch that **** for like 2 hours before I seen a real fight and that one ended so quick, but I did appreciate seeing the the look on Cro-Cops face when he reliazed that a jiu-jitsu fighter dusted his ass off wiith his own move...
