I can tell you that in Canada I was able to get live streams on TSN of those HBO fights. TSN is ESPN's Canadian affiliate. Maybe they were just free in Canada.

Hectari, I watched that show on Spike, since it was free, it was worth the price. However, compared to boxing, that was crap. There is no way in hell that the UFC is going to eliminate boxing. The fights were either a) boring or b) a blowout. The excitement level is not even anywhere near close. I appreciate them giving it to the viewers for free, but if I'd paid for that on ppv I would be furious.

Your right about some of the problems in boxing. Sure, it would be great to see a big time fight on regular TV once in a while. Absolutely. There are things in the political structure of boxing that prevent this from happening. UFC has a better business model than any boxing promotion, sure.

The bottom line however, is that boxing is WAY WAY more exciting than in MMA. The athleticism and skill level in boxing is also way higher. I'm not going to make some ridiculous statement that a boxer could beat an MMA fighter in an MMA match. They couldn't. But a lot of the top boxers have made boxing their life since they were 9-10 years old. The UFC fighters are a bunch of amateur wrestlers who couldn't get a job. I predict eventually more and more NCAA amateur wrestlers are going to start going into the UFC, and we'll see what that does for the excitement level of the fights.

When I watched that show I saw a fight where some high school wrestling superstar was in the UFC, and he was 10-0 when he'd only been doing MMA for like a year or two. What the hell does that say about the quality of athleticism when any good amateur wrestler can be an immediate superstar in the sport in that short a period of time?

That is bull****. You don't see Rampage Jackson and Chuck Lidell on Spike do you? That card was the equivalent of an ESPN match like the one with Judah on it 2 weeks ago

It was PPV in the UK so thats not regular cable.
The last great non PPV fight was Lewis vs. Klitschko which was aired on HBO in 2003. UFC should be compared more against WWE, its entertainment not sport. Thats why Dana White tells his fighters he would rather them fight and lose than to sit back and cruise to a points win. He wants ratings not succesful careers, its a company not a sanctioning body and its out to make money not for the sport of competition, also its the WWE demographic that are switching over to UFC, Boxing is a noble art whether its on tv or small halls, most non title mma fights are mind numbingly boring and with little skill.

It would NOT have been free viewing if the fight was set on US soil.

Didn't you guys cover that in another thread?

Boxing will have to make some similar moves, because DLH ain't gonna be around much longer, Mayweather is hinting at retiring, PAC(the most electrifying fighter today, but doesn't have the support of the Mexican fans, unless PAC is fighting a Mexican). After those names who else do we have. Boxing needs to step up its promotional game , and keep pace w/ the snowballing UFC.

We have the NEW BREED coming to boxing.. UFC should have their fun right now after the Mayweather DLH fight... won't be HUGE names in the sport to make MEGA FIGHTS like this for a few years...BUT when BOXING comes back to its FORM from the 60's 70's 80's 90's... Tyson-Ali era... It will be the TOP sport in the world again.

So I'm not worried about whats gonna happen after this fight.

I guess you miss it every time HBO replays their pay-per-views the following week. How many shows does the UFC replay the following week. Klitschko, the number one heavyweight is NEVER on pay-per-view. Taylor, another P4P fighter is on in May. I could go on and on, but it's obvious that you don't watch boxing.
