Ufc Scores Another One On Boxing

Saturday night's UFC special from Manchester, England was a treat for fans who are fans of the MMA/contact sports in general. How often do we see a current P4P Top 10 boxer on basic cable ? Cro Cop prior to losing was considered by many as a premier top 10 heavyweight. Boxing will have to make some similar moves, because DLH ain't gonna be around much longer, Mayweather is hinting at retiring, PAC(the most electrifying fighter today, but doesn't have the support of the Mexican fans, unless PAC is fighting a Mexican). After those names who else do we have. Boxing needs to step up its promotional game , and keep pace w/ the snowballing UFC.

The Cro-Cop fight blew up in the UFC's face. It was suppossed to be a nationwide showcase for Cro-Cop to hype up a pay-per-view fight. It was considered by those who follow MMA as a "tuneup" fight. Cro-Cop already had a fight set with Randy Couture, on pay-per-view. Do you know the amount of money the UFC spent to secure Cro-Cop? Trust me, they were very unhappy with the end result.

It does suck for the UFC that Cro Cop lost but most fans want KO's and his KO is gonna be on highlight reels forever so I think fans were happy with the outcome of the FREE show. Money is too important to boxers and more so promoters, thats why the big fights aren't on cable TV. TOO EXPENSIVE!

Well now instead of Cro Cop and Randy fighting they can have Cro Cop vs Arlovski which I think alot of people would want to see more than Randy and Cro Cop.

I agree with you , but you're missing my point. The simple fact that the UFC was able to put together a card which featured a premier heavyweight on regular cable was awesome. When was the last time boxing did this ? When was the last time we saw a current top 10 P4P boxer being showcased on regular cable(won or lost, is not the point) ?

Wasnt Winky Wright vs. Jermain Taylor both p4p fighters, on HBO for free? I think they were buddy.

give it up hec, please. and for the record... if you plan on basing it on attendence, well think again. ufc's manchester show had nothing on a hatton or calzaghe fight. they got in about 16k in attendence, while manfredo calzaghe did more than 30k. and hatton religiously packs well above the 20k mark at the MEN arena. they did good for a UK debut (at least since UFC 38 brawl in the hall), but they did nothing phenomenal when compared to the recent UK boxing events.
