Must have missed it. I still consider any fighter who does not come to the US nothing more than a regional champion. All of the best fighters fight here and all of the biggest fights happen here. I don't see how anyone can dispute that...

I think you just want to start a fight....
But to answer your question,yes it is possible...but,he would have to fight the best in places other than his backyard.

I assume you are thinking of Calzaghe...and in his case,no...I don't think he can be considered among the elite.What has he ever really risked???
He's dodged the great ones in their prime and has never left his backyard.
What's next for him?...a rematch with Manfrdo?...the winner of American Idol?

At least the other guy from over there is making an attempt to be great.
Fighting Castillo over here is a very good thing,for boxing in general.
Calzaghe has no reason to come over...when you can fill a stadium against the likes of a Manfredo,why risk anything?

I agree that the U.S. is th mecca of boxing. Major networks like hbo and showtime show most of the big fights and have some influence on who fights who. I know other countries have networks that show the fights, but it seems HBO or showtimes does most of the marketing. I would think that most would agree that to make it huge in boxing worldwide you have to fight in Las Vegas or New York.

I disagree with the point though that to be considered elite you have to be willing to fight in the U.S. Along as that fighter fights the best and wins no matter where it is he should be considered elite.

Joe Calzaghe for example is considered by some (in British Boxing) to be the greatest British fighter ever and probably doesn't give a **** what Americans think of him.

But if your heros fought in Las Vegas and **** you'd probably want to fight there some day.

Most people have never heard of these 'HBO' and 'Showtime' things.

the greatest fights happen in america definately so it is the mecca for that reason,but where the fights take place isnt exactly EVERYTHING otherwise american fighters wouldnt leave the country to go to training camps all over the world.

also the most important thing in boxing and without it boxing is nothing is the fighters and america isnt the mecca of boxing for that,not that great fighters havnt come out of america,but modern boxing anyway
