Manfredo was just doing the Rope-A-Dope and was biding his time, looking for the perfect shot.

We all know of his monstrous power and Calzaghe's glass chin.

      to save the welshman.

He had him where he wanted him.

The Manfredo decision wasn't great, but it's not like he was going to last 12 rounds anyway. Calzaghe was hitting him at will. When it's that easy to hit an opponent a referee has a duty of protection. Consider Lacy's face at the end of his bout. If Manfredo had taken 12 rounds of similar (probably greater) punishment they'd have taken him out of the ring in a box.

I didn't like the Manfredo stoppage, either. Hey, I was the first one to jump up and yell BS! when Mitchell was stopped (watching it on a delay), but that's what happens.

Then you sit and watch the replay, think like a ref, and you see a fighter taking dozens of unanswered punches, not fighting back, and yeah, you still would like to see the fight go on, but you realize that you have to blame the fighter, not the ref. Many stoppages that everyone hates, if you're being honest, it's the fighter's own fault more often than not.

In Lee's case, he WAS fighting back and CONNECTING. That's why I mentioned that one.... I really disliked that stoppage.

with the Andy Lee stoppage I think it was more so maybe they didnt like Manny steward, it had nothing to do with him being Irish....
