Yep it was a crap piece of matchmaking and it will be interesting to see if this fight does help him get the big one with Taylor or Hopkins. If it does I think we can cut him some slack, but if we don't get that or Kessler next up, the Manfredo fight will have been an inexcusable piece of crap.

The stoppage was very poor IMO but tbh i manfredo was completely out of his depth. he wasn't slipping that many punches and if he wasn't hurt at all why wasn't he throwing back?? Someone on another thread thought he was rope a doping, absolutely laughable. He was well on his way to getting stopped.

The only thing people are gonna hope for now is him getting beatdown here in the states and thats about it. Unless you were a fan before that fight, im honestly unhappy i woke up out of a dead sleep before work to watch this fight.

If you wanna show off your skills, you have to do it against fighters who actually match up against you, not constantly try to "win over": the american public with bums or guys you know have no chance against you. Hes ****ing 35 years old, i can understand Kahn, Taylor in his early career, Berto etc taking these fights, but come on, this fight is bull**** and you all know it.
I pretty much agree with that. This fight was a mis-match and it was widely known prior to the fight, therefore, how is Joe going to endear himself to the American fight fans by easily beating an outclassed opponent? It's easier said than done, but a fight should (and i believe could) have been made with the likes of Taylor, Kessler, Hopkins etc instead of a fight with Peter Manfredo. True, Warren is looking at getting a fight with either Kessler or Taylor in July, but Joe is 35 years old now... The Manfredo fight was a waste of time. However, Calzaghe got the job done against Manfredo and although it was a terrible decision by the referee stopping the fight, Manfredo was only going to go on to lose the fight, and possibly get seriously hurt in doing so. The guy froze and was throwing nothing back at Calzaghe.

Im sure ur geting sic of me sayin this but

manfredo was outclassed. Calaghes hand speed was blinding. He was just to fast for manfredo and manfredo was confused he didnt know what to do. He just couldnt handle calzaghes speed. So he just coverd up layed on the ropes and bobbed around randomly. He wasnt hurt and it didnt need to be stopped at that time. But i dont think manfredo woulda gotten anything done at all if it had gone on. But we will never know.

The whole thing smells of a set up. Calzaghe gets another win, the contender doesnt get hurt. Life goes on. That ref was paid off.

C'mon man, leave the conspiracy theories to the dumb kids.

The ref is not to blame, Manfredo is. Anytime a fighter stops fighting the ref has to stop the match. Manfredo froze and didn't fight back.

You can blame the promoter and you can blame Manfredo, but you can't blame Calzaghe or the ref.

Not true at all. The ref is not compelled to stop a fight simply because one guy decides to cover up and stay covered up.

The ref is only compelled to stop things when the guy is NOT defending himself. Meaning he's not showing any offense AND also is not blocking anything. Fredo was definitely outgunned, but he had enough wits to stay tight with his hands at his ears.

No way it gets stopped in Vegas.

Still a **** fight for both guys.

I've only just got back from Wales after watching the fight, so this is the first opportunity I've had to comment on it. Frankly, I thought the stoppage absolutely stunk. I went to it with my girlfriend and she was watching through her fingers as Manfredo was taking a beating, but he could have gone on. This is the linear world title, he should have been given every opportunity to carry on instead of being stopped as soon as he was in trouble. I'm sorry to say it, but this kind of fight (on HBO, too) only gives weight to the Yanks saying they won't come over here. I was disgusted by it, to be honest. It was a **** card, the Maccarinelli fight was a complete ****ing waste of time, the Amir Khan fight was too and the Calzaghe fight was just heating up when the ref decided to ruin my evening lol.

I don't blame ya, Yanks, stay in Vegas.

why are Calzaghes fans defending him when nobody is talking bad about him? This stoppage was bull**** " OMG youre just hater Calzaghe was gonna win anyway all you americans just hate british boxers" ****in **** shut up Calzaghe honestly didnt prove **** he beat a boxer who wasnt even the best boxer on reality TV. Seriously I have nothing against Calzaghe but who thinks he actually proved anything? If he wants to prove something and for people to respect him hes going to have fight someone real, and if hes not willing to fight over here his fans need to shut up and accept hes not gonna be viewed as the real deal. He beat Lacy which was impressive but thats it. Also remember RJJ beat Hopkins,Griffin,Hill,Toney,Tarver,McCallum and several others and people still say he fought nobody so just accept it. Not everyone schemin on the British
