Do you then believe that it is fair game if, as a world champion, he doesnt bother going anywhere else in the world and just sticks where he is as long as he's making good money?
Hey, if a fighter wants to stay in his backyard and just collect money, that is up to the fans to keep paying.

However, if you are fighting for smaller purses (than you would receive somewhere else) because you are not fighting where you should be fighting and who you should be fighting, the criticism will be earned.

There have always been fighters that stay in the comfort of their home country instead of branching out because a fair amount of money, for low risk, can seem better than the bigger money, with huge risk.

When it comes to "American" fighters, it is understandable that the majority stay home, especially after their name is known.

Take Winky Wright for example: He is a fighter that had to build his name up, so he did what was needed to do, build his name wherever he could go, which included fighting overseas. In the end however, where did he end up? "America"...wy? because that is where the names and the money is.

One thing both fighters should argue for his the smaller gloves. Vegas are hypocrits since they let MMA fighters where 4oz gloves, but when it comes to boxing now, their gloves have to be bigger.

I am disappointed in this fight to tell you the truth. Castillo has a lot of wear and tear on him. A fight with Shane, Cotto, Kermit, or someone else would have been better. However, can't blame a guy for sticking in the division he feels comfortable at, although, Shane and Cotto were lighter weight fighters so fair enough to fight them.

Agreed his last two or three fights haven't shown him in the best light but I feel he has made some decisions of late which have affected him.

He took Maussa because their was the WBA belt to be had, he took the belt, knocked out Maussa but the fight was poor for a few reasons. Maussa is a gangly awquard fighter and Ricky tried to hard to replicate the Tszyu performance, add into that no one was going to give Hatton credit for beating Maussa regardless of how he did it.

Collazo was a poor choice in my opinion, Hatton moved up a weight and went straight for WBA title, styles make fights we all know that (dont we?) and Hatton finds counter punching southpaws especially difficult.
The worst thing that could have happened in that fight was that Hatton floored Collazo early on because he then tried for two or three rounds to replicate the knock down and this drained him, add into that Collazo was a natural Welter and Hatton had wrongly in my opinion concentrated heavily on weight training with Kerry Kayes, he fought the wrong fight and was perhaps lucky to get the nod. People have mentioned Mosely and the way he beat Collazo but Mosely fights in similar style to Collazo only far better and Hatton is aiming to emulate the career of a Shane Mosely, he's still got along way to go, if he makes it at all!

He then dropped back down to Light Welter for Urango, again he was in a no win situation, Urango again a southpaw and a strong one gave Ricky a tough time but the score cards tell a different story.

All in all I would have preferred Hatton to stay at Light Welter, if he had gone up to Welter and had a warm up fight or two then I feel he would have adapted better but then again he still would have been slated for it.

I think he and his team have made some questionable decisions of late during a tricky time personally for the lad, he has though remained unbeaten and picked up several belts along the way, everything he has done he did with the best intentions in mind i.e. fighting in America to pacify the boxing fans and media and I feel that his best years are still ahead of him.

This thread is one sided obviously and a layman would think Hatton had lost his titles or had been beaten badly, a true champion finds a way to win on a bad day, Hatton did that. If he fails in the long run then I think he at least will go out on his shield so....

I can agree with that, but I will also wait and see who he fights after Castillo.

If he stays at 140, so beat it, it is his right. He can stay there for the next few years and cement his legacy.

He could even retire right now to live a happy life doing something else, that is his right as well.

the ref for the Castillo fight should be Nady so hugging won't be allowed as much. Then we can truly see if Hatton has skills.

I'm tired of the Hatton hating...get over it. I wouldn't judge him till after the Castillo fight.

Nah, I'm a boxing fan and as a fan I want to see good fights. I'll watch the fight hoping it's entertaining and competitive, but I'll be quick to change the channel if it turns into an episode of "***** as Folk" with all that manhugging...

that's a post coming from a guy named "MickyHatton". Name sounds biased already. All I see are excuses on why Hatton cannot beat guys proper. Southpaw southpaw that etc etc.

Hatton has a bad style. Even after KD Collazo in the 1st round, he already started his hugging. It's just not aesthetically pleasing.

He's very impressive for his size, I would do the same thing he does if I had that kind of reach disadvantage against my opponents, you guys needs to stop bitching about Hatton it just shows how little you know about the sport and shows that most of you haven't even boxed in a ring...
