Its not an ideal situation by any means. Its just feels like I have to defend taylor on these board more and more, he gets alot of flak. Its like he gets no credit for what hes done, I know people feel he got a gift against hops, but I honestly felt hopkins didnt do enough to win that fight,& i was far from the only one, but people really hold that against him still.

Personally Ive always seen hopkins as opportunistic, he gave taylor a shot, but it was a calculated move by hopkins,he knew taylor was green, taylor went from fighting c-level comp to the p4p champ 2x,then wink.

and you know,we'd probably have a much better situation right now if Winky hadnt pulled out of the rematch, taylor was all for it.

yup, and i feel you about having to defend taylor more and more, taylor is a good fighter, i think he needs to get back to what got him to the top instead of trying to find the best whatever he's looking for, go back to the recipe that gave him a lot of momentum.............

Taylor and Spinks are two likeable athletes who deserve a big fight like this, but I'm not sure they're real interesting together in the ring...

OK, I understand the position that he wanted the Winky rematch and it was indeed Wright who turned it down, but that doesn't mean he should get away with going back to the 154 lb. division any time he needs another 'name' on his resume.

He got a mulligan for the Ouma fight, I mean, you had to give him a pass there because of the Hopkins-Hopkins-Wright gauntlet.

Mora? At least he was a middleweight...and there was definitely appeal to that fight given his popularity/unpopularity. I would have been appeased with that knowing that Miranda/Pavlik had to be next in line.

But Spinks? SPINKS? Cory Spinks?!? The same guy who Zab Judah KO'd two years ago in St.Louis? The same guy who was running, literally, away from Roman Karmazin for the last three rounds last year? Like someone posted earlier, this guy just fought ONCE at 154. Taylor's people were ready to move up to 168 last year...he's a big middle going against a tiny LIGHT middle.

Who else could he fight, you ask? Arum is pushing for Pavlik to get the shot now (he's the WBC no.1), but DiBella is hiding behind the "let him fight Miranda and the winner gets the shot" excuse. And what exactly has Cory Spinks done to earn a middleweight title shot? Anyone want to answer that? Oh, he's smaller and has some decent name value? OK...fits the Taylor profile.

Oh, and before anyone responds and says "well, Hopkins fought DLH and DLH started at 130," please remember that not only had DLH been at 154 for a while, he UNIFIED belts in that division, something Spinks is clearly reluctant to even try (the Tarvis Simms talks have gone nowhere, despite having the same promoter), and DLH has a bigger frame...and a much, much bigger name...it was an EVENT.

This would be a joke, and frankly, I don't know how willing HBO would be to show Spinks running for 12 rounds...but it's Taylor, so they will.

Let's look at some names that I think would be better fights, maybe not much better, but better than fighting a relative midget at 160...

Giovanni Lorenzo (undefeated middle prospect, almost got the December fight with Taylor)

Tarvis Simms (mentioned earlier in thread, seems like a good idea)

Daniel Santos (fits well, just one fight at 160, beat Margarito)

Roman Karmazin (I know, he lost to Spinks(!), but he's a bigger guy and just stopped James Obede Toney in his first fight at middleweight, and of course he had Spinks running for his life at the end of that fight...oh, and he beat Ouma much more impressively)

Roy Jones (just go straight to this fight...lol....just kidding...maybe)

Give Taylor a break Mora pulled out, he doesn't have a lot of options to get a guy on short notice. At least Spinks has a name to hype the bout.

Neither Mora or Spinks is an opponent I would like to see Taylor fight. Not just because of the obvious mismatches, but also because neither guy is deserving of a shot at the linear MW championship.I give Mora no chance in hell, but Spinks a slight chance in hell.

Taylor is in almost the same situation Cotto is in. Everyone else is fighting so who else is there to fight. Cotto chose Judah. But soon JT will have to face one of the big punchers in Miranda and Pavlik.

Miranda and Pavlik are available, nothing as been signed.
BUT Taylor will still take a less dangerous fight.

According to a recent report by boxing scribe Dan Rafael, the May 19 bout with WBC middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and "Contender Star" Sergio Mora is off. Mora refused to fight Taylor at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. It was said that by walking away from the Taylor bout, Mora will lose a million dollar payday. [details]
Mora is a joke.......he gets a gift chance of a lifetime and does'nt want to fight in Memphis......Does he think he is the draw or the Champ or something??? **** him the **** **** did'nt deserve the chance anyway.Almost as bad Taylor now looking at ***** ass Spinks who has been KOed by a WW......what is the world coming to?In my eyes Miranda/Pavlik is for the MW championship at this point **** these other *******s.
