There is something very strange going on here we haven't been told about. There is no way in hell that Mora wouldn't fight Taylor because of the venue. Taylor has an audience and this is Mora chance to make himself known. Doesn't matter if he wins or loses, all he has to do is put up a decent fight and his reputation is made. Why would they throw away this opportunity? There is a story here and some wiley reporter should dig it up.

I can't believe Mora/Wald/The Contender passed on this, I don't care WHERE the fight was...they may not get the opportunity to make this up...and they better not until after Taylor fights Spinks/whoever in May and then the Miranda/Pavlik winner this fall.

If Taylor fights Spinks and then Mora, I think all the credit he's received for the level of opposition will disappear. That would make three voluntaries in a row, also...

Also, Randy Griffin is a guy they may try to get for the May fight...he has rankings (no.10 in WBC, no.11 in WBO)and is somehow no.1 in the WBA (though Taylor doesn't have that belt--Castillejo does)...

And Gatti has been known to pick a couple li'l guys as well. And I'm a gatti fan. It's part of the game. However, Taylor needs to decide what to do. Either start fighting middleweights or go down to jr. middle. He is his own worst enemy right now, or his promoter is.

A little strange but possibly a good move by Mora. He has a little more time to grow as a fighter before getting his title shot, because it may be his only chance he must be ready. Getting the fight away from Memphis is good for him, and he may actually be the bigger attraction and a Vegas fight could've been great. If the fight doesn't happen in Vegas, it'll give him more time to get ready.

But the problem is he may not get the fight at all now. You have to think Taylor will fight the Pavlik/Miranda winner after this May fight, so he's looking at a year-long wait at least.
Mora should fight two guys with a pulse between now and then. If he loses either, he's out of the picture. Even if he wins both, he still won't be any mandatory and he will be THREE years removed from being the Contender Champion...not much appeal will be left.
