It's pretty hard to be overrated when you destroy your opposition for a twelve year span and defend the title 25 times.

        Obviously his credentials are unprecedented.
The only sense that he is overrated in my opinion is by those who consider him to be the number 1 HW of all time.

Joe louis's chin was very average, he would have a hard time in head to head matchups.

            Key questions

            1. Overrated by whom?

            2. Overrated how?

The question needs a lot of development before you can have a sensible debate about the potential answer.

So I'll say nah probably not.
Yeah true actually. He did spark out Duran pretty good as well. So maybe im being harsh on him.

This guy brought boxing to it's peak during his era. He fought in the Ba*****, in Germany, in Bankok , in the Phillipines, in Congo, In the Domincam Republic, Jakarta Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Switcherland, England, Canada and a lot of U.S. cities and you know what? These are all sold out seats. Does anybody in the modern history of this sports even come close in doing that? Why? Because he has skills, speed, power and most important of all charisma.

Can you call the guy over rated? Compare it to the modern day fighters like SRL, Hatton, Pbf and all the rest . . . these people doesn't even want to fight out of U.S. or U.K. for christ sake.
I agree with you, however I do think that a couple of things are worth noting.

SRL - 40 fights. 0 outside of the USA (at the end of his career)
PBF - 37 fights. 0 outside of the USA (at the age of 30)
Ricky Hatton - 42 fights. 5 in USA. 1 in Germany. 20 of his fights within the UK have been outside of his home town, for those that want to complain about him always fighting in 'his back yard (at the age of 28)

So Hatton is at least showing that he can fight in other places but his home country. I wish that even the top guys in American boxing moved out of their country like they used to. Sure, British guys HAVE to do that because America is where you make your legacy, but the Americans should WANT to do it, to prove that they can.

So that would mean that Calzaghe is underrated then? Considering how close he is to doing the same thing.

I think James Toney is grossly overrated. Sure he's been world class for years and years but if he was ever an "elite" fighter it was only fleetingly, he generally lost to the best fighters he faced. His chin is granite though, and that's helped him move up the weights.
