Are you reffering to Ali? Well I'm sorry if plenty of posters here including you, haven't seen "the greatest fight". But in the same context you can't also say that the guy is over rated. No basis at all buddy.

This guy brought boxing to it's peak during his era. He fought in the Ba*****, in Germany, in Bankok , in the Phillipines, in Congo, In the Domincam Republic, Jakarta Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Switcherland, England, Canada and a lot of U.S. cities and you know what? These are all sold out seats. Does anybody in the modern history of this sports even come close in doing that? Why? Because he has skills, speed, power and most important of all charisma.

Can you call the guy over rated? Compare it to the modern day fighters like SRL, Hatton, Pbf and all the rest . . . these people doesn't even want to fight out of U.S. or U.K. for christ sake.

I'm going to bite the bullet and go with Ali, and I'll tell you why:

Ali was a great fighter. He fought great fighters. He was in one of the best heavyweight eras in history and he was top dog. But this isn't a discussion about whether or not he was a great fighter. It's about how he is overrated, not necessarily by the boxing fraternity, but by the general public. Ali was a shameless self promoter and it was effective. He called himself "The Greatest" so many times that it caught on. But most boxing folks would disagree. Most would have SRR as the best ever boxer, and many would have Joe Louis as the best heavyweight. Would Ali make the top five? On many, maybe most lists, he would. But the way he is revered as the greatest you would think that even his farts have knuckles. If you have a great fighter who is considered by most people on the planet as having been the best there ever was then that is far more overrated than having a good boxer that was considered by a tny minority of his fans as being good. Ali is rated beyond what I see as his ability by far more people than someone like Tyson (whose "badness" was overrated, and whose current claim to fame has more to do with jail time and bancruptcy than it does to do with pugilism) or one of those black and white fellows that boxing purists are so fond of.

To put it another way if you took a poll of a hundred non-fans and asked them who the greatest boxer of all time is, 95 would say Ali. A couple might say Tyson or something. Not one would say Harry Greb or Willie Pep. If you took a poll of ten boxing experts and asked the same question, 9 of them would say Robinson. That's why he's the most overrated fighter despite being in actuality one of the most gifted fighters ever to grace the ring.
