I've been following mma since UFC 2 and I agree with floyd that it's a fad. There is a true hardcore fan base but I think most people have been watching too much spike tv.

Boxing over MMA, PrideFC over UFC!

Floyed tells the camera man who is wearing a UFC T-shirt that boxing is a art and the UFC is a fad. Just want to get some boxing fans opinion on this.

In my opinion, Floyed comes off sounding like a idiot. Considering that MMA uses discplines like judo, BJJ, Muay Thai that have been around for many many years. I say that Floyd stops calling himself a figher and calls himself a boxer. Cause thats what he is and in a real fight he wouldnt last a minute with MMA fighter (fighter being the key word)
when your in that ring u aint using non of that **** its kick kick stomp the head or stand up punch wildly til they fall and get on top and pound them. 24 year old country boy named rufis can do that.ahaha im tired of ya'll say there alot of martial arts into it,well I dont see it besides old school gracie back in the day. now until they actually do some of those arts of combat then its just street fighting practically

like I said before when it comes down to it its straight up street fighting that ne 1 can do. u dont need a black belt or 10years experience in an art to pound some1s brain or to torque there arm.martial art is a way of life and u guys take it like they actually do all that **** in the ring, maybe judo,wrestling.SOMETIMES.

a boxer is good at boxing an mma fighter is average at all the thing he trains some time he'll be specially good in 1 of the discipline but still not good enough to hang with the ones who only train in it

If you are an MMA fan than you know that most of the guys even some at the top are pure violent brawlers, tough as hell but its not like they sit around meditationg and training all day. I would say the sports training wise are similiar in the fact that if you dont train hard and arent talented you probablyt wont make it to the top but many of the elite boxer have axtensive amateur careers and I think have more time invested in training.

My twopennorth: Floyd has it right in one thing: UFC is a fad. Boxing in its current incarnation has a history spanning a hundred years. In a hundred years who will be the UFC champ? Nobody! Because UFC is a heavily marketed throwaway product. It's a product. Owned by a company named Zuffa. I think a fair few people are waking up to this, UFC is a brand name and not a sport. In fact MMA is really not a sport, rather it's more of a cross discipline contest for sportsment to compete in. Muay Thai is a sport. Judo is a sport. Jiu Jitsu is a sport (or it can be) as is boxing and the various other disciplines that make up the training of an MMA fighter.

Pride and K1 have a higher standard of competitors than Zuffa's product, but those organisations are still only fringe ones in the West. So let's concentrate on the target of Floyd's ire: UFC. UFC is becoming a little like WWE with phony feuds and fake personalities. It's not about the fights, it's about the personalities, it's about selling PPVs and endorsements. That's why it's a fad and that's why its days are numbered.

                    They're two different sports.

Boxing requires being a master at one art form.

MMA requires just being "good" at all multiple forms.

It's like trying to compare Basketball to Tennis.

If a Tennis players plays a 1v1 against a Basketball player, of course he's going to get smoked, and vice versa.

Fact of the matter is, there's not a single striker in the UFC, that could last 3 rounds with a world class boxer.

All thos guys are jacks of all trades but masters of none! No mma fighter could stand in with someone who concentrates on one discipline and maters it. Cant box with a boxer, cant kickbox with a kickboxer or wrestle with a wrestler. NOw no doubt they can combine all those skills and dominate in some situatiions but that is a little different
