Easier fight than Cotto, for close to the same money if not more (who knows what a Cotto fight will be worth when it goes down?).

Clottey would have killed Margarito too if not for the injury!
Margarito duznt deserve props for fighting Williams at all, ITS WHAT HE'S SUPPOSED TO DO!
That is untrue, because Margarito was also injured in the fight. Also, Margarito is supposed to fight the best, and Cotto is better than Williams. So if Marg had fought Williams that should've been fine with everyone.

Dropping the WBO title is not the worst thing someone can do, especially if they are dropping it to fight Cotto.

But this is an ok move by Tony, in my opinion. Good money, winnable fight. Williams is going to get hurt.

I got no probs with a fighter dropping his belt to fight a Big name fighter like Cotto if his mandatory is sum alphabet maggot but Punisher Williams is a legitamit threat and also a big money fight for Margarito, a fight the fans all want to see, check the forum its split on who will win. The winner should fight Cotto as is planned, its bieng done properlly but i see no need to praise Margarito for doing what should be expected of him!

A lot of this is because of irrational hatred for Margarito that has spread around here due to the issues between Margarito and Floyd Mayweather regarding the $8 million challenge.

People who have seen the long haul of Margarito and Williams' careers will largely pick Margarito to win.

Williams may be a legit threat, but he is not 3/4 of Cotto's skill level.

I'll bet that if we set up a poll on who people would rather see Margo fight, Cotto or Williams, most people (probably 2/3) would pick Cotto.

I'm not dissing Margo for fighting Williams because he's making a smart business move by getting his $1.2 Million to fight an easier (and mandatory) opponent. Smart man.

if you cant see that clottey was basically outboxing him and defending every wide margarito shot being thrown at him, then i dont know what to tell you. Clottey was winning the fight easily , and in reality, Margarito never even had the guy hurt, he won by the default of the guy breaking his hand (if not both) and it was visible as he simply stopped punching after round 4.

Regardless of your misguided post, everything I stated still stands. Judging Margarito off of one fight in which he also had his wrist hurt is silly and unfair.

Who ever said Marg had Clottey hurt? It's a non-issue. Clottey can take a shot and runs 10 miles a day. He was always a good fighter and with his tight D, always would put up a good show vs Margarito.

Why are we talking about Clottey? Paul Williams is not Clottey. His defense is not as good, not by any means.

The people who have seen margaritos career know his limited ability will only take him so far, Margarito and Williams are dead even, i only give a tiny edge to williams because his punches tend to be a bit straighter, but you woul dhave to be a fool to think that at this stage in margaritos career hes somehow progressed into an excellent fighter. Hes a wild, uncalculated wide punching glorified brawler. Williams is basically the same thing, its even.

You are right that Margarito's technical skill is not on Cotto's level, but Margarito has fought at 154 whereas Cotto had fought at 140 all his career until recently. Margarito is the bigger man, with more experience, and has a great chin and ability to hurt Cotto which makes the fight a hard one to pick.
