I think it depends on the boxer's size, if you put a 6 ft 200 pound boxer in a fight with a street fighter of similar build then 9 times out of 10 the boxer would be able to win by just punching and outmuscling the guy when he tried to make things dirty. I've been boxing for years now but i'm only 5ft 9" and 147 lbs, if i get into a scrap with someone smaller than me then i'm fine but i'd have alot of trouble fighting someone bigger than me unless i could get the first punch in.

There are a lot of things that can happen in a street fight that aren't legal in any sport, such as headbutts, biting, eye gouges, crotch strikes, etc... Because of how fast a street fight happens and because of all of these factors it is really tough to say.

Ive seen state championship wrestlers lose to regular guys in a fight. Ive seen supposed black belts get their ass beat by regular guys in a fight. A street fight is more times than none a burst of punches thrown in about 20 seconds. I would take a guy who excels in hand combat over a guy who excels in wrestling or karate. However, Muy Tai would have the advantage because they are trained to use knees and elbows as well as their hands. Of course an MMA guy would have an advantage they train in many variations of fighting, which include boxing, judo, muy tai, karate, greco roman wrestling etc.

I am confident that boxing would definately help in a street fight. Most of the cats running around starting fights are just looking to beat somebody up, not neccesarily are they looking for someone to actually give them a fight.
I still say that if I know that we are going to throw then Im gonna get of fast, first and often until he crumbles. Let me tell you that these cats starting the fights would have seen nothing like the storm that will set them on their asses as would mine.
But then again, fighting in the streets for free is for fools..................Rockin'

My personal perspective is that the winner of a street fight is the guy who walks or runs away unharmed and whatever helps you to be that guy is effective.

Ofcourse boxing can give you an advantage in a streetfight, however the key word is "CAN". I've had this convo with boxers before and found out that lots of boxers who have had street fights did not stick to technique and just went all out punching. A street fight is a battle of agression with a sense of urgency, its not a chess match where you can pace yourself or spend time setting up punches.
However, you have much more of an advantage in a street fight if you know grappling/wrestling. Street fighters don't fight under Kimbo Slice rules, the in close hugging, grabbing and wrestling is inevitable. If you can get an advantage there, then you can pummel someone on the ground.
An MMA fighter who can wrestle, grapple and throw various strikes vs a Boxer who just has hand skills is a mismatch.
