Jones was stopped by Darryl Pinkney in the third round before he faced Barrera. Before Pinkney, he was floored in the 4th by John Michael Johnson before Johnson disposed of him in the 11th. After winning twice over Barrera, Jones was gone in the fourth against Kennedy McKinney and ERik Morales. Some six years ago, Paul Ingle sent him home also in the 11th round. HIs last fight was for a loss against Ivan Alvarez who had 7 consecutive losses on the way to winning by UD over Jones. Two of those losses were to Pacquiao victims Emmanuel Lucero and Oscar Larios.
So what your saying is Junior should just go after MAB.
Whoa, I never would have expected "Poison" to come back after all this time. I thoroughly used to enjoy watching him fight. He was like a mini "Hitman" Hearns. I don't think I like his chances so much, although it is his choice to do so.
I don't see how you come up with that. He wasn't a big puncher, He also used tons of lateral movement and I'd have to compare him more to a mini Pernell Whitaker.
In his prime maybe yes, he could beat Pacquaio but now? After 4 years lay off? I seriously doubt it. But i would still be interested to see the fight happen.
Let me update people on the current state of Junior Jones. I saw him at a fight recently, and for all intents and purposes, he looks like a guy in reasonable health. In 2005, he was scheduled to fight my gym mate Antonio Espinoza in a 4 rounder on ESPN in upstate NY. However, his license was denied because he was looking the shot fighter in the gym, getting beaten up by Golden Glovers and showing symptoms of frontal lobe damage, according to word on the street.
Now, 2 years later, they are going to let him fight? Junior Jones should not be in the ring with Pacquiao, he should not be fighting anyone else, Junior Jones should not be in the gym sparring. This is a travesty of taste by the powers enabling him to fight.
