I'm just not a proponent of fighters without skill being as hyped as some of these cats are. Margarito's style can only be described as amateurish. Cotto would dance to victory here, perfect style matchup for the showcase. And that's what it would be, a showcase fight.
Stop Overrating Miguel Cotto

Margarito didn't have one bad night. He fought the same as he always does, but he fought someone who actually knew how to box. Clottey laid out a nice gameplan to beat Margarito: keep your hands up and don't hurt BOTH of your hands. If Margarito makes it to Cotto, he will get dominated and embarrassed.Whos the amatuer and whos the pro?
If u think Margarito is an amatuer think again. The guy showed his will against clottey and pulled off a win against a guy he was getting killed against. Thats impressive, doesnt even matter that the guy hurt his hand.
And thats the only time ive seen Margarito truly in trouble and gettin beat badly.
Everyone gets to have one bad night.
I'm really looking foward to COTTO-MARGARITO, not only because its gonna be FOTY 2007, but because Margarito will get to show that it was a fluke, and that he's got plenty of great fights in the bank for boxing fans.
And this is comin from a guy who was disgusted with Margarito askin For mayweather, and sayin he deserved that fight. I am far from a margarito fan.Comment

I know Cotto has some good supporters on the forum.
This is something for them:
It seems there is a disparity between people like myself; who think Cotto has been flown at medium to low altitude by Arum (Malinaggi? Quintana?... Come the **** on...) Those are ****ing throwaway bouts for a "superstar."
And others; who talk of Cotto beating Mayweather and "like" accomplishments...
Mayweather is P4P #1; whether any of us agree with that or not. I personally don't think Cotto could beat any of the guys ranked 2-10 on the rest of the P4P list either.
But he can beat the king?... Remember what the P4P ranking is FOR!
It's so when can answer questions like these!
His name and reputation belie his accomplishments and the quality of opposition even his own people are willling to put him in the ring with.
Cotto is in the same category as he was 2 or 3 fights ago- so what's going on?
Is he still "green?"
When will his people put him up against a real test?
And why haven't they yet?
I get the feeling; there are those here who have more faith in Miguel-than those who actually have a financial and professional stake in him!
After Torres:
I hit the brakes on my expectation. So did Cotto's team. So did Bob Arum.
Where are you guys at with this?...
It looks to me like Cotto's people have not gone "all in." Why have you?...Comment

Cotto did have some rocky rounds against Torres (current champ) and Corley (also rocked Mayweather twice in their fight). That does tend to create doubts about a fighter. But you have to remember, he only has 28 fights and is 27 yrs old, most of the people in PR picked him to lose against Quintana, a lot of websites had him losing to Malignaggi also, he came threw in both fights convincingly. I do agree he hasn't fought one "elite" champ yet, but there are talks about a Margarito fight (which Mayweather for whatever reason you choose turned down) or maybe Cintron if he can get past Mosley. There were a lot of doubts on how Cotto would respond against a good puncher at 147 and if his power would carry up to 147 also. There were also talks that the reason he was winning was because of his huge weight advantage at 140. He proved critics wrong and looked as good as ever. I wouldn't call him a superstar, and if he doesn't make the p4p rankings yet, that's ok too, but that doesn't make him a bad fighter nor one who doesn't have potential to become a star, his lack of elite level competition only makes him unproved.I know Cotto has some good supporters on the forum.

Cotto is young and will break most if not all challengers in due time. You people suck on margarito's nuts and yet....WHO has he beaten? Now let's move on to Ricky the Chickface Hatton: WHO has he beaten? He wrestled Tzu to a BS victory, He got his ass whooped by Collazo (stolen) ??? Who has he beat? He will not get by Castillo, mark my words. The Ricky Hatton train comes to an end soon. His face is ripe for a little breakin by a Puerto Rican. Funny how that is always the case. When will a White guy win???
I expect ALL mexicans to hate Cotto...it's this little Indian in the cupboard complex they have going. Haha!

Margarito fights like a kid who got his bike stolen and never learned how to fight. He will get his face lumpy. Cotto will destroy him. You know it, and so does your Uncle. Destroyed.

Good points. Cotto would NEVER beat Mayweather. NEVER. EVER. NEVER.
Cotto couldn't beat Castillo. And Castillo beat Mayweather. (HAHA)

my view exactly. idk how Margarito can be viewed as the #2 man(PBF bein #1) at 147, yet has fought ASS for competition. the guy still fights on FNF.No elite fighters, but who is fighting elite fighters anymore? Fighting elite fighters is soooo 1940s anyways. Get with the times!
I think Cotto has been fighting good opponents, like Quintana, Malignaggi, Corley, N'Dou, Sosa. He has solid opposition, much better than Cintron or a lot of the other guys at 147. Compared to Margarito, Cotto's ledger looks like Ray Leonards.Comment
