what about when he went to germany and stopped Mario Veit in 6 rounds?

anyway, im not here for an argument cos im not a massive Calzaghe fan. i agree with you about the pointless name calling when it seems hes got no itention of doing anything about it, but i think a 9 year champion with 18 defences to his name says enough.

I just hope he is in a big fight next year and either proves why hes been running his mouth off or gets beat and stops with the names.

anyone who seriously believes joe wouldnt take the fight with taylor because he is legitimately concerned about taylor's career needs their head examined.
You're right. IMO no fighter would be worried about the career of another fighter! Fighters know the risks involved, and if a fighter was worried (before a fight) about the welfare of another fighter, then why be a fighter at all?
Besides that, IMO Taylor would pose more of a threat than Manfredo will, and as yet, i have not seen or heard anything regarding Calzaghe being worried about Manfedo's career!

Guaranteed if he was american everybody would be on his **** but because most people have only seen him fight a few times or only ever seen the lacy fight they aint really fans.
Wrong, people are were giving Cotto tons of crap when he fought Paulie, PBF got tons of crap for fighting Sharmba and even for fighting Zab who was 1 loss away from still being the linear WW champ. Take into consideration that Cotto is also 8-9 years younger than Calz and that PBF has a better resume than Calz and they still get crapped on.

Even Marciano gets severly scrutinized for his resume and he's as american as apple pie. Why is it that when a British fighter is crapped on for his resume all the UK guys run around saying "If he was american" and "Only because he's british". No we loved and gave much respect to Lenox and many other foreign born boxers, so that argument is getting very tired and has no truth to it.

[details]
If he believes this to be true, when will Taylor be ready? By the time he is Calzaghe would have presumably (and somewhat conveniently) retired. If he doesn't fight Taylor he had better fight Winky or he's going to be considered to be a paper champion. Come on Joe, fight one of the big boys for gods sake!!!

I agree, and to be honest, i dont think manfredo will pose any threat at all. where as Taylor can.

            Ive just read this......

Despite boasting a record of 42-0 Calzaghe has never been afforded the recognition his career deserves

But all that changed back in March when he dismantled Jeff 'left hook' Lacy in a performance Sugar Ray Leonard described as one of the finest he had ever seen.

And with Joe Louis' all-time record of 25 title defences on the horizon, he is set to fight Peter Manfredo in March.

Manfredo was the runner-up in reality TV's The Contender and Calzaghe told Soccer AM he had no intention of under-estimating him.

"Manfredo may have been on a TV show but don't be fooled he is a good fighter," he said.

"I can't go into that fight thinking it's going to be easy because it won't be."

If Manfredo is overcome, Calzaghe will be in line for a career-defining fight against Jermain Taylor or Bernard Hopkins, probably in New York

            ^^^^

Hopefully one of these fights will happen after the Manfedo fight and all the talk of Calzaghe running his mouth off with no itention to fight will stop.

But the thing is in America everybody seen Lewis fight, i didnt mean that fact that he was a fighter from the UK nobody likes him, i meant because he fights in the UK not many Americans see his fights so they dont get to see the full product

Who is Mario Veit? And if defenses against bums deserves credit, Sven Ottke is the greatest fighter that ever lived...

Ok, I got it and thats legit and I can't deny its true, we are a skeptical society. . Taylor grabbed america's attention by beating Hopkin's. He then rematches him. Ok, now he has the spot light and he goes out and fights the next toughest middleweight out there. He took a relatively easy fight in Ouma but Ouma is comparable to 99% of Calz competition. With that all said we are still skeptical about Taylors true ability and he's american.........

Calz was in a great position. His first American televised fight with Lacy opened America's eyes and grabbed our attention but what does he do with his spotlight? He fights Bika. What does he doe after that, he's fighting a runner up from a realty boxing show. This is with a lot of time between fights. Calz with his big notable win against Lacy isn't gonna get a free pass on skepticisim and criticisim just because he's from the UK.

yeah i agree with you, maybe Calzaghe can get some more attention by beating Manfredo Jr, who is well known to the american public, Then hopefully go on to a big fight. Im not even a big Calzaghe fan. all i was saying when i started was that i hope hes in a big fight in 2007.
