For the record, I doubted Mayweather beating Wright.

Could Mayweather beat Taylor? Honesly, as green as Taylor is, yes, it is possible.

Would it make Mayweather a guaranteed all time p4p Great? No. Taylor is still green has yet to really impress as a middleweight champ. How many times did he hit Ouma cleanly? Taylor couldn't even knock out Joppy, who got flattened by a former welterweight. So, Taylor, despite his popularity, hasn't really proven himself "great"...no where near it. Some credit must be given to him for hangind tough with Hopkins and Wright; but he did anything but establish himself as the superior fighter in those three fights.

Also, there's the issue of Baldomir. Carlos was a tough cookie and an inspirational story; but know one had even heard of him before he upset Judah...who was always overrated IMO. Floyd's win over Baldomir was very immpressive as was his win over Judah; but were either of those "greats"? No.

If Mayweather beats Oldar De La Hoya and then beats Taylor it is very impressive; but doesn't not guarantee All-Time-Greatness, IMO......it does put him up there; but not beyond refute due to Oscar being past his best and Taylor not really having gained respect as a "champ". The surest shot for Mayweather to attain merits worthy of all-time-greatness is to spend a little time in the Welterweight division and defeat the fighters currently inhabiting the Top 10.....Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, etc. Prove you're the best at a weight, then move up if you want to.

Mayweather hasn't really proven himself at any one weight since he fought at 130.....we've all just presumed he was the best because of his "skills". At lightweight, beating Castillo was sufficient; but he could have done more. At Jr. Welterweight, he beat Arturo Gatti, which, in the end, meanst nothing other than he was a Top 10 Jr. Welterweight. We "presume" he could have beaten Tszyu and Hatton; but we don't "know" that because he didn't prove it.

Beating Judah and Baldomir and winning the lineal Welterweight Championship was a good move; but dominance is the key to greatness. Robinson cleaned out the welterweight division and the middleweight division. Benny Leonard owned the lightweights as did Duran...and then Duran moved up and beat one of the best Welterweights who'd ever lived. Leonard was no Baldomir....and he hung tough with Hagler, one of the greatest Middleweights who ever lived. Taylor is no Hagler.

While it's true that it's not Floyd's fault that he was born when he was, you have to make the most of the situation....and he did great at Jr. Lightweight, and very good at Lightweight, and, so far is doing very well at welterweight; but there are other really good fighterse out there he could prove himself against...and "proof" is everything in the hurt-business.

Pernell Whitaker beat all the best lightweights and welterweights....in other words, every big name fighter of his time. That's why he's great and an all-time great. If Floyd wants as much recognition as Pernell or more, after De La Hoya, he's got dates with Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, and Williams....or their conquerors.

Talk is cheap in boxing. You wanna be the best....prove you are.

He's taking on and beating the big money fish so that they have no choice but to fight him. But the problem is he's having to go up to 154 to do it. Very simply, being the champ means defending your title against the best, whether you think they are or not. No one thought Buster Douglas would last more than a round or two against Tyson.....guess what, we are all dead ass wrong. So you have no respect for Margarito and Williams; and that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion on how good they are or are not; but until two men actually get in the ring and get it on...you don't "know.".

No one thought Randolph Turpin would beat Robinson; but he did. And we got to see Robison come back and beat him. No one thought an old Robinson would beat a young Gene Fulmer after he'd lost the title, much less knock the granite chinned Fulmer cold with one shot in the 5th....but it happened.

If Mayweather wants it, he's gonna have to go get it...and beating an overrated Judah, a plodding Baldomir, and an old De La Hoya aint' gonna get you mentioned alongside the greats in Val Halla.
