Todays fighters are MUCH more skilled than the fighters of the early 20th century. People try to use the argument that todays fighters only fight once every few months, whereas the old fighters fought every few weeks. Imagine if todays boxers got W's for sparring, which is pretty much equivilant to what older boxers did. Its really just the way society has changed to make it so boxers can make more money and fight less. Its the same with every sport. My old man complains all the time that there isn't a Quarterback around today that is as good as Johnny Unitas. There are lots of opinions both ways for the boxing argument

Those no decision matches were not sparring sessions. They were actual fights and sometimes bloody matches.

The reason they were better back then is that for one thing there were more active fighters. More active fighters = deeper talent pool. Boxing was actually a mainstream sport and some of the best athletes in the world were involved. Nowadays it pretty much gets the dreggs of the world's athletic talent. The old guys also fought more often and were more consistent. They were less bound to come to fight in terrible shape, unlike today.

LOL Roy Jones would be put into a coma by the first punch, hook or straight right, that lands anywhere in the general vicinity of his chin.

I think its fair to compare any class below heavy. Beyond heavy is hard though because the heavyweights now are so big. I think its crazy to say someone like Rocky Marciano would be a heavyweight contender today.

Roy jones is overrated. Demspey KO's him.
Lewis vs Dempsey would be interesting but I think Demspey would KO him in the mid-late rounds.

Thats because he wouldn't be a contender, he would be champion.

I think it's crazy for you to say he wouldn't when in fact he beat guys like the 6'4" 220 lb Carmine Vingo who was better than a lot of big guys today.

What the ****?!?!?! LMFAO at Dempsey even landing a punch against Jones. I give some fighters from the 60s up a good chance but I think LL destroys any heavyweight pre-1960 hes just too big.
