      - -Need I remind the Muffys and Buffys who post here that Leon I'm talking off beatup the bigger, stronger, more experienced all time Champ.

So how is green Clay going to beat that Leon? The smaller Doug Jones tore up Clay enough to have the fans booing him, and this a better Clay than I'm positing.

U boys need a timeline 101, 201, and 301 set of classes sounds like to me.

        Thank you for your service.
On Ali, the more I study his fights, I notice something I missed every single time. He was ahead of his time. Imagine if he started fighting in our present era! With all the innovations in training, nutrition and equipment, I believe he would make guys like Mayweather look average. Understand, this is JMHO.
On my service, it was my honor and privilege.

            - -Understand then that you were responding to a poser who happens to excel at ol'Timer 'rasslin', not boxing.

Ali vast experience and reputation that toofless Leon impugned mightily, so how would Leon do vs 8-0, age 19 Clay when he went the 10 rd distance wif Alonzo Johnson?

Ali was 192 lb, in the range of Leon's fight weight, had one of the best trainers in his corner with more intense devoted time to boxing than the Marine veteran Leon who had other duties to fulfill as part of his Marine hitch.

Could Ali keep the swarming nonstop Leon off him, something he was unable to do in bof their title bouts?

              Hmmm...
              - -Bit embarrassing for the Ali be walkin' on water boys.

Maybe couch the question differently: At what point early in Ali's career is he guaranteed to whoop 8-0 Leon who whooped the champ Ali like he seldom got whooped before?

                    - -When Ali went to 9-0, he beat Alex Mitoff. When Leon went to 8-0-1, he whooped up The Greatest.

Which is the better win that shows prospect development and expertise?

Speaking with all the advantage of 20-20 hindsight - the answer is obviously Ali. What we saw that day in Februray 1978 was Neon Leon peaking and a 'finished' great collecting a paycheck.

IMO that 9-0 Ali from 1963 cuts Spinks to ribbons; Spinks never lands a clean shot.

You found what at first blush looks to be a statistical paradox, but it is not. The way it played out makes perfect sense, at least to me anyway.
