New Jersey is insanely diverse ecologically speaking. It has areas that are off the Appalachian trail... as remote as any area in the country. It also has other beautiful rural areas, and of course urban areas. But Atlantic City is bust... a ghost town. And I can't tell how I know this but I know it...never drink the water in New Jersey! Trust me on this one...

All the places I mentioned I know intimately.
AC is great for what it is. It’s a ******** town. Stay by the boardwalk where most of the casinos are and it’s great. Shopping, restaurants, the beach. All fine. Stray a few blocks into the city and it’s a low end city environment. When the casinos were first built the idea was that $ would be directed to lift up the, at the time, slum that was AC. Unfortunately this never occurred. So today the areas around the casinos are very nice but that’s it. Again good enough if you desire a Vegas like casino environment but don’t want to hop on a plane.Comment

Once the virus thing has passed if you live in NY and you have the $ to do so try the following:
Call “The Reeds” hotel in Stone Harbor NJ for a weekend getaway. Not cheap but very nice. Day one explore the neat shops in town and spend the afternoon on the very pristine beach there. Just out of this world. The sand there is white and firm so easy to walk or jog upon. Sit back and relax. Day 2 drive 15 minutes to Cape May. Lots of shopping, great restaurants and spend another afternoon on another spectacular beach. Take a horse drawn carriage ride around town and look at all the Victorian mansions one after another.
It will probably cost you $1500-1750 in total for the two nights..hotel and food. But I guarantee you will drive back to NY with a smile on your face.Comment

For a cheaper one day getaway drive to the town of Sparta NJ located way up in the NW corner of the state. Within this town is a area like no other called “Lake Mohawk”. It was built in the 20’s and was designed to resemble Switzerland. A large lake nestled wonton a valley surrounded by mountains. The original homes around the lake look like Swiss chalets as do the shops in the towns plaza and the clubhouse on the boardwalk. Take a walk down the boardwalk and at its end open the gate and down the steps to the bridal path which takes you by the shoreline of the lake past some of the chalet homes. Eventually you will walk around back to a road which you can then take back to the plaza. Have a few beers at Kroughs bar/restaurant...they make their own and it’s great! Then suggest having dinner there or walk a block into the plaza and try dinner at the St Moritz. Again a day you will never forget. Stunning views, great beer, great food!Comment

To defend NJ...
NJ gets a bad wrap because all you see is downtown Newark as you land. Newark is fairly gruesome.
However drive NW and you get into the hills and mountains of NNJ. Beautiful lakes, lake communities, farms, parks.
Drive SE from Newark and you find some of the finest beaches in the US if not the world. Visit Avon, Spring Lake, Belmar. Asbury Park, once a town Jeffries and other heavyweight champions liked to train, and was a ghost town 40 years ago is now full of trendy restaurants, a beautiful beach, boardwalk and high end hotels.
Travel past these shore towns and head south you find the ******** city of Atlantic City. Another beautiful beach and boardwalk.
Then move down to the bottom tip of NJ and find Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May. Cape May is full of Victorian mansions and another perfect beach. You can sit on the beach and watch dolphins swim by on an average day.
So NJ is not so bad after all.Comment

That's what usually happens with areas that have casinos. There's not usually much else around. And all this Jersey talk reminds me of the movie Eddie and the Cruisers 2, when Eddie is going on about how great his home state of New Jersey is, so his girlfriend asks, "then why is the Statue of Liberty facing the other way?" lol.
True. ******** comes in, takes takes takes, then leaves the area in an economic depression.Comment

AC was in economic depression way before the casinos. The casinos have helped but not to the extent originally promised. AC is a place one can visit for a weekend. Prior to the casinos no one was doing so.Comment
