I prefer The Warriors when it comes to gang movies, but that one isn't too bad. I also remember that guy as Dynamo in The Running Man. He got to use his opera singing skills in that movie. They did a decent job of making Arnold an underdog, but it was originally supposed to star Christopher Reeve before he left to do Superman 4. Man, that movie could've been so much better with Reeve, as long as they didn't go with the book's original depressing ending.

I am also a fan of the warriors. Never saw the running man. Different styles of movies set in different era's. Another favorite of mine was "The Lord's of Flatbush".

I liked them both. It is natural to think of them as similar...I initially did. But in retrospect they seem to have some major differences as well. Warriors is more fantastical and the evil is always skin deep, it is all on the street level from beginning to end. So, we have the big gang meeting, "can you dig it?" the hurt feelings of the gang with the chick who starts it up... (the dwarves?)... Everything is camp in the warriors.

The Wanderers is a little more about a time in New York City, occasionally it digs a big deep. It shows the fathers, who were tended to be G's themselves... The Ducky Boys were a more intense evil force, than the assasin gangmember who set the warriors up...

Its not a big difference for sure, but the wanderers was kind of realistic in many ways. I still remember being a kid and knowing guys like the father who drops the bowling ball on the guys hand. Dads looked that way, smoked a pack a camels a day...drank in the pubs, etc.

I never liked him as a fighter and I think he's one of the worst heavyweight champions of his generation. But from what I've heard, he's a very nice guy and he's exceptionally intelligent.

Interesting article, I have to go early say I never wondered what Valuev was like as a person before but I enjoy background info on fighters like that.

Valuev wasn't particularly exciting in the ring. Forgot that he won the title from Ruiz...jeez that had to have been a barnburner. From what I've read it was what you'd expect from the plodding jabbing style of the Russian and the jab and grab of Ruiz. Man I hated watching Ruiz fight. Also disliked his obnoxious manager Norman Stone but I digress...
