Laurence Cole? Hmm, never seen him before.

Richard Steele is up there for Chavez-Taylor 1 because as someone pointed out here before not sending Chavez to a neutral corner or seeing the 10 second light, plus stopping Tyson-Ruddock 1 early, although that was on the verge of ending.

Jersey Joe Walcott for the same reason, not getting Ali to a neutral corner. I saw on Ringside where it was explained a referee has to do that and Walcott didn't do that in the Ali-Liston 2 fight or is supposed to send the boxer out of the ring even to then pick up or start his count. Didn't someone train this guy beforehand?

Also the ref that didn't stop the Roy Jones vs. Richard Hall fight sooner. You can even hear the HBO announcers yelling to stop the fight. It finally was stopped in the 11th. A quick check of Box rec says it was Wayne Kelly.

Actually it all would have been OK if Nat Fleischer had stayed out of it, the fight would have continued and the opening KD just a trivia footnote.

Great catch. I was thinking Walcott as well.

There seem to be a lot of bad refs these days.

              To anyone.

Why do you think Jersey Joe did such a terrible job?

Lay out how you would have handle that situation differently.

I repeat everything would have been OK had that self aggrandizing old man Nat Fleischer just kept his mouth shut. He had no business, no authority to interfere in that fight.

The bottom line is Liston deserved a count and was counted out without ever getting one.

Yes the rules state that the referee has to pick of the time keepers count, but there never was an opportunity for that to happen, all caused by Ali's behavior.

Liston deserved a count from the referee and when he didn't get it the fight should have continued (as it was until that ****** old man involved himself.)

Seriously someone tell me how you would have handled the situation differently than Walcott.

                - -Clear sky DQ.

Think Joe wants to return to Jersey as the man who DQed NOI #1 hero and cash donor?

                Just think Malcolm.

By making sure Ali gets to a neutral corner or not listening to Nat Fleischer and letting the fight continue.

The Fleischer part I understand, there was his error, he should have recognized that it was his authority to decide what happens.

But how would you have gotten Ali to a neutral corner?

                    Would you have DQed him?

But had he done it the boxing community at the time would have supported him.

Are you say that the Black ******s would have wacked him?
