    The worst referee ever?

Certainly one of the worst. So first, the ref appears to miss the bell and lets these guys wail on each other a bit longer. No big deal and the place seems loud as hell.

Next, the ref stops a round 10 seconds early, thinking he hears the bell. The crowd gives him the business. Maybe he's hard of hearing...or hearing things...? But ok. It's a loud place.

Finally, after the beat down, he doesn't bother to count, which is good, but look how the ref doesn't even check on the downed fighter. He actually just walks about the middle of the ring with his hands up as if HE has won the championship

    What the actual fvvk???

Timestamped at the knockout. I don't think anyone would want this guy reffing their fight.

The funny thing (sorry you will just have to forgive my very dark sense of humor or stop reading) is that the people presenting the video are oblivious to what they are showing us. They think they are showing us something good, a story about an orphan kid who made good; we're suppose to embrace and feel good about what we are seeing. LOL

The kid gets pummeled, taking a pointless beating for way too long, while the Ref seems to be watching the action, following the fighters around the ring trying to keep up as the kid staggers away from him. Not for moment does he ever look like he might interfere with the fight. LOL

Where is a 'Richard Steele' when you actually need one?

But the best part is the long shot at the end when the fighter just lays there on the floor, stretched out and abandoned, while the Ref pointlessly stands center ring reconfirming the fight's end.

      Funny!

Yes, he gets a 'worst' ever vote.

          - -Cole so bad he's pretty much been neutered from big fights in Texas since daddy retired.

Joe Cortez, Kenny Bayliss, and the tag team Byrds as horrid as it gets.

The only bad fight for Steele that stands out for me was the automatic DQ not issued on Floyd when Roger stormed the ring in the middle of a fight to cause a ring riot.

Steele and Vegas know where their bread is buttered for sure.

            Joey Curtis.

            The Dokes-Weaver travesty.

Runners-up have to be Richard "Punch and Get Out" Steele, for injecting himself too often in the action, and stopping several fights too early...
...and Joe "I'm Firm But I'm Fair" Cortez, for injecting that dumb catch-phrase into every match.

Kudos to whichever ref first used this line: "They're here to watch you fight, not me referee."

Steele, the unbeatable nadir. Then comes Cole.

                  - -Lettuce not forget JJ Walcott who made about as hot a mess as is humanly possible in the Ali/Liston rematch.

He only reffed 15 fights mostly against Ham and Eggers, but his next biggest fight, Patterson vs McNeely who never even reached the prospect level much less title challenger, he allowed McNeely to be dropped 13x before pulling the plug in the 4th rd.
