I remember Teddy mentioning this in a local AM radio interview. Maybe he was promoting a book or just talking boxing. They were talking about his life either way and Teddy mentioned his dad doing house calls. His dad must have been pretty tough and probably armed because I heard doctors back then had to worry about being robbed by junkies in bad neighborhoods.

Yup... My father was a musician and Dean of a Conservatory and had a gig conducting a band on Staten Island. The band was respectable and played in all the parks on the Island, but was run with Mob money and mob guys, upper level guys. So we would go to all the concerts and have parties at their houses. The guys loved my dad, they were really swell to me as well.
One of the nicest guys was "Donnie" who was actually a cop (lol and in the mob) and unfortunately he and his family were killed in a car accident...very sad. But he told my dad about Staten Island and it was NO MAN'S LAND!! Very dangerous. So yeah you had to be armed to get around. The main Godfather like guy who was also really kind to me as a kid, almost died when he fell asleep at the wheel of his Cadillac.
Talk about good food...when we would go to one of their places they would have pasta, they made this sauce with codfish tomatoe based and olive oil...and steamers with butter and lemon! Man oh man!! funniest thing was after a gig they would tell my Dad "Dave get the family and follow us" and we would go to some small place that looked closed, the godfather would have a talk with the waiter at the door, and instantly all the lights are on, we are all seated...Some of the BEST pizza, in Staten Island and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.
But staten island was definitely no man's land...Hey Anthony...I made my first big move on a chick while at one of those concerts!! She laughed at me.....
You know those restaurants you can't afford? Where you have to ask the waiter how much a dish costs?
Well it's the same here, if you have to ask...
I'll throw you a bone, though. Your dumb, but harmless. Johnson wasn't that good. He wasn't horrible, but he's not good. He won because he could out-muscle smaller men.
Gibbons, Dempsey, Loughran, Tunney, they illustrate how the great "big" men of the era fought.
As a general note:
Watch MMA, and kickboxing, and this style of Boxing is more easily digestible. (you'll see how these old timers really resemble McGregor and Jones). These are real fighters. Guys like Whiatker and Mayweather are masters in the modern era, but clearly their skills aren't practical. In fact, they're more likely to get you hurt.
Talk about dumb. You think these guys, prime against prime, would have beaten Johnson?

Yup. Nailed it. I'm a TOTAL dumbass. I am just a big blockhead.
One day, I got this stuuuupid idea that i should do my own research; rely on facts rather than fables; do my own thinking, rather than let someone else think for me. I'm such a moron. All these degrees and the money I have made from that sound decision-making, why didn't someone stop me and save me from my folly!?!?!?!?
So Mr. Faraday, being our resident genius, I hand the ball over to you: please provide the footage and the breakdown proving that Johnson was a better Heavyweight than Loughran (an over-sized Middleweight, but one who is clearly the superior Heavyweight - on film and per record). Put this to rest, smart guy. You opened your mouth... and made eye-contact, now swallow*.
*I've been trying to eat more pineapple, just like you asked. But no matter how hard I try, I just can't give up my greens!
