I refer to the fact that in boxing parlance Liston was an old man then, and you duck my question about how old was he?
Do you seriously expect to earn any credibility with the modus operandi you adopt in debate?
What difference does it make when son fought the same way his whole life you already have the answerLast edited by Ascended; 08-24-2022, 04:13 PM.

When we look at the "evolution" of sports we have to look at combatives as a hybrid category. There are places where combatives have flourished. One great example would be Brazil. In Brazil there has been active events in all classical forms of wrestling, including Lancenshire, Catch Can, Greco Roman, Wrassling, etc. There has also been Japanese Judo, evolved to a point where it had higher quality teachers and development because while Judo stopped in Japan during the Second World War and directly after, it kept evolving in countries like brazil (Jiu Jitsu) and Russia (Sambo). Then you had brazilian variants of joint locking (Lutte Livre) karate, Boxing and all kinds of cross pollination where people would have matches with few (if any) rules (Vale Tudo).
So despite a nice history of wrestling in the United States, including Hawaii where mixed martial arts took place regularly, Brazilian grappling arts took the combatives world by storm in the mid to late 80's. This is because Brazilians spent money and developed institutions that catered to these MMA type events, consequently when the Gracies came to the States they were, for all practical purposes, professional fighters, competing against amateur fighters. Money talks right? The Gracies were evolved compared to fighters in the states, whom never had the viable traditions and the financial backing to compete in these type of events.
In a few years now? Things changed. They changed considerably. Because of tournaments like the UFC, etc.
My point is twofold: First to show how traditions, sporting and fighting both thrive when given financial resources. Also to make the case that fighters today have many options, talent is more split than ever. Those fighters that do become professional start later, and the coaching network that once predominated in various boxing areas has dwindled considerably. Boxers do not have the resources that the sport/combative once commanded. Under those conditions, why would boxing evolve?

And if vit was like you said he never would even make pro he would had been destroyed in the amateurs and gave up boxingLast edited by Ascended; 08-24-2022, 04:40 PM.
