Roy picked the absolute worst HW "Title" holder in the world, bottom ten historically, and slapped himself to a dubious win. OK, props to him for getting fat and winning, but it was completely meaningless in terms of boxing history. NOTHING like Spinks beating Ali, who was truly the WORLD HW champ at the time.
Really? Turn in your boxing card.

It wasn't MIKE Spinks who beat Ali. It was LEON Spinks who was a Lt. Heavy in the Olympics and was always a heavy in the pros.

Mike Spinks beat Larry Holmes but even then he wasn't a MW. His debut was as a Lt. Heavy. He was only a MW in the Olympics.

Really? Perhaps English is your second language. I didn't say Michael Spinks beat Ali, I clearly typed Leon and referred ONLY to Leon.

Then what was your point? That a HW beat an aging HW champion showing the first signs of Parkinson's? How is that more impressive than a MW moving to HW to win the title? It is nonsensical.

            You’re kidding right?

RJJ was fighting in an era of many multiple champions in each division. He chose the path of least resistance, Roided up and beat a contender for a paper title. As unimpressive as it gets.

Spinks won the gold metal and had SEVEN pro fights when he fought the undisputed true and only worlds hwt champion for the title. In a BRUISING fight Spinks won the undisputed and true hwt championship.

            Incomparable.

Incomparable is right. Apples and Oranges.

One won the HW title coming into professional boxing as a MW. It doesn't matter who they faced, that's an enormous achievement. I don't care he faced Butterbean, it still required him to win titles at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Cruiserweight, Lt. Heavy and Heavyweight. You want to scoff at that? Go right ahead, I don't see your ass doing it. In fact, I haven't seen anyone else do it at all. As much as you want to poo-poo it, that's the simple truth. It's a damn small group, ain't it?

Do I think RJJ could have won against, say, Vitali K? No - he's too big. But then again I think very few of the 70s heavies could have given him a match for the very same reasons. But like it or not RJJ won the HW title.

Leon Spinks won the the HW as a pretty raw product. But let's face it, Ali a shell of himself. He was already starting to slur his words a bit and if you ever watched the fight you'd know it wasn't bruising. Both fights were pretty lame actually. And then he turned around a lost it...to the 36 year old Ali. This wasn't a particularly great accomplishment truthfully.

Your entire point seems to revolve around the fact that the HW Championship was undisputed. That makes every single champ since Lennox Lewis a fraud then because he's the last guy to hold all 3 at the same time (briefly). So Wlad and Vitali were frauds?

in 1960 one in 625 fighters was a former world champ
today, one in 69 fighters is a former world champ.

Twice as many weight classes, 4x the belts per class.

Jones beat a bigger man basically. I think in 2000 Lewis was the main "champ" Jones would have been koed

A lot of the champs today are frauds, I thought this was common knowledge

Hell Robinson nearly beat Maxim, had he been a few years younger he may have. That would have been incredibly impressive

You don’t know what your talking about.

Roy Roided up and beat a contender to win a paper title. He took the path of least resistance. Truth is....he won nothing.

Spinks beat the undisputed lineal hwt champion in a bruising battle.

RJJ accomplished NOTHING in beating a contender in Ruiz.

Spinks became the undisputed worlds hwt champion.

                      NEXT!
