Since Battling Jim died in1918 I doubt he sparred with Dempsey.I too think Dempsey beats Wills but we must bear in mind that Wills is an old fighter in those films and Box Rec 's DOB for him is wrong.Johnson did not hit Jeffries when he was down in fact Jeffries got the rub of the green because he should have been dsq'd when his seconds entered the ring to help him. The average weight of Johnson's challengers was the highest until Joe Louis became champ.Certainly Johnson would have to be more active if he fought today,that isnt to say he could not be so though is it? McVey was generally 205/207lbs was that small?
Johnson fought a verified 24 men of 6feet or over.

Johnson got all the glory for being the first black HW champion. He got the shot at Burns, who Langford would have easily defeated himself. Johnson drew the color line as champion, despite taking on a lesser black opponent who managed to fight him to a draw. I asked about his best wins, I got crickets.
