Floyd Mayweather had his best fights at 130 give or take. He never had the size to fight guys like Leonard to begin with. Floyd also never fought any greats at their prime, Camacho for example would have been hell for him to handle speed for speed. I a not even saying its Floyd's fault, though I could...but there is a school of thought that says you never know how good a fighter really is, until they are in a 15 round battle, down, hurt, etc. 12 round fights favor the counter puncher, the defensive wizard, because many of the great punchers need all the clock/rounds to get to you. So for Floyd to have tested his medal it would have been nice to see him against a guy like Armstrong for example, who would not stop coming for 15 rounds.

But with that said, I don't hold it against Floyd that he conceviably can't beat a great welter...its not his best weight, not even close. How about Duran at light weight?

Are you asking me If the runnin man could beat Duran
        at lightweight?
        If yes then:

        NO!
Duran destroys him quickly and easily.
Mayfleur was a garbage lightweight. (for some reason)

He not only lost to Castillo the first time. But In the rematch
he did the bare minimum and relied on his A-side status.

He may have won that rematch but he didn't look good at all.

Then there is his fight with Sosa. Sosa is crap and yet he gave
Mayfleur all he could handle. That fight is a lot closer than people like to admit. And it's a fight that's rarely talked about.
        I wonder why....

Then that brings us to Phillip Ndou. I have nothing against Ndou
but lets face it, he's a glass chinned bum with no defense that
was brought in for a highlight reel ko.
        Took running man 7 lol

Have you even seen these fights?

Duran beats him in under 3. (maybe the first)

Mayfleur was far better at light welter doe....

I wasn't speculating on who would win I was giving an example of the type of opponent that would bring Mayweather to another level as compared to fighters I think are on another level from Mayweather.

And while I acknowledge many differences..I think only a fool would not see that first Duran leonard fight as a pretty good piece of evidence regarding how Mayweather might have looked...at his best! I think Duran wins that one as well.

With all these damn weight classes it confuses me. I tend to think mayweather was at his best between 130 and 135.

Oh and yes saw the fights in fact saw other Sousa fights as well...Actually these issues have been debated many times on these forums. When in this section I tend to take the extra time if I have not seen a fight and view it. I am well aware that floyd has a lot of decisions that show he was not as dominant as other fighters, in fact its another knock against him.

          • Sugar Ray would have made life uncomfortable for Mayweather. As great as Money is, I think sugar would of schooled him. Even Duran would of out hustled Mayweather.

            • of course he does.

not only could leonard outbox floyd, he could out castillo castillo

floyd would lose to duran and hearns, too. hearns would beat him up and knock him out. he'd never even take the fight, and you know it.

So one would say: What would have happened if May and Duran were contemporaries and they were told to fight?

Answer: nothing, it could not happen as Floyd would not let it.

                • Floyd wouldn't have been able to pick and choose his competition if he'd been in an era before this digital/social media one. Back then it was more on merit than celebrity. If he'd have cherry picked to that extent people would have called it what it was.

                  • Say... September 1980. Ray Leonard is preparing to rematch Roberto Duran for the Lineal and WBC titles. Tommy Hearn has just smashed Pipino Cuevas for the WBA title. We have a prime Floyd Mayweather, Jr. just reaching contender status. Sorry mate, no easy ways to stack up multiple alphabet titles here!

                    • He could, alternatively, take on WBC Super Lightweight titlist Saoul Mamby, or his WBA counterpart Aaron Pryor!
