You know, the same Griffin who whooped JJ.
Jeffries did NOT risk his title against Griffin it was a 4 rds exhibition with Griffin receiving $100 for lasting the distance.
For somebody with so much mouth, you are remarkably ill informed on every aspect of boxing history. Empty vessels!
    1901-09-17 220 Hank Griffin 180 21 2 6 Hazard's Pavilion, Los Angeles NC-ND 4/4
    ref: John Brink
Griffin went down from a push in the first round and was knocked down twice by clean punches in the second. From then on he was in survival mode to claim the $100 forfeit. One report, prior to the start of the bout, described Griffin looking like a "famine sufferer". Attendance: 5, 000

I couldn't find a source easily so I'm just going from memory. I could be mistaken.

The title wasn't on the line. I'm not sure why Boxrec has it recorded as an NC, they allude to why its a draw in their notes.

It was a 4 round non-title fight that Jeffries could only win by KO. Griffin picked up his extra money for surviving. ... ... How is that a NC? Jeff demolished him but he survived so, draw, imo. The bout wasn't stopped, nothing fishy happened, it was just a simple 4 rounder and if ol griff makes it he wins some extra money and gets to say he spent four rounds with the champion and did not lose.

              1.He was so much bigger
2.He was 12 years the younger man.
              3.Fitz's hands went on him.
My point is ,where was this good defence then?
I've read some old newspaper accounts that said Fitzsimmons just battered Jeffries at will and literally wrecked his face.....until Fitz broke both of his hands and lost the ability to defend himself. The other fight was much the same but Fitzsimmons eventually ran out of gas.

Jeffries was on top in their 1st fight, the consensus was that Fitz took him too lightly.
Hype Igoe, who was ringside for their 2nd fight said Fitz gave Jeffries a worst beating than Dempsey did Willard.

Hart whooped Johnson, ie end of JJ title hopes until little Tommy gave him a shot

What title hopes? Jeffries already stated he would NEVER defend the title against a colored man. Hard to have hope when you have no chance of getting a title shot.
