He hated Liston because Liston was sort of an ******* and probably because of his mob ties. If you read Marciano's bio you'll understand that Marciano's enitre family couldn't stand the mob, he thought they were an embarassment to the Italians.

I believe fully that if Marciano and Liston met 5 times Marciano would win at least 3 or 4 of the 5 times
rocky would have won every time, liston was a quitter, marciano would have never quit. as soon as he felt suzieq he would have stayed down for the 10 count to avoid further punishment

          • Random Question and, admittedly, a dumb one; but Butterfly...do you see any scenario in which Ali will not win this tournament?

Hi, an welcome to this second round western conference playoffs, where Dempsey and Johnson will fight for the third time. Both men split the first two games. Who will take the 2-1 lead? heres the tale of the tape.

              Jack Johnson

              age: 32
              height: 6'-1"
              weight: 209
              reach: 74"
              record: 67-6-10 (49ko)

              Jack Dempsey

              age: 28
              height: 6'-1"
              weight: 190
              reach: 77"
              record: 61-4-9 (49ko)

And now Jack Dempsey can be seen by the crowd and he does not exactly get a heartfelt ovation. boos can be clearly heard. Dempsey is wearing a black robe.

Jack Johnson is now in the ring and the crowd erupts in applause. Johnson is wearing a black robe. here is our ring announcer for tonight, Michael Buffer!

michael buffer: Ladieeees aaaaand geeentlemen! presenting second round fights in the western Conference! introducing, from manassah, CO, wearing solid black trunks also six one and weighs one ninety pounds, the manassah mauler Jaaack Deempseeey!!!!(boos fill the arena) and his opponent, from Galveston, TX wearing gray trunks with black trim, he stands six feet one inch, weighing two hundred nine pounds, the Galveston Giaaant, Jaaaaaaaaack Joooooohnsooooooooooon(the crowd cannot control itself as they scream louder and louder) Llllllllllllllllllets get ready to ruumblllllllllllllllllllllllllllee!!!

conn: You boys both know the rules of the Texas State Athletic Boxing Commision. protect yourself at all times, and break clean. shakes hands, and come out fighting!

Round 1: Dempsey is bobbing and weaving and johnson is flatfooted. again, this seems to be a methodical battle for dempsey, and a tactical battle with johnson, as johnson lets dempsey carry the fight. dempsey is lunging with hard jolting shots, and johnson pulls back from them. johnson occasionally goes in with a right hand. johnson has to use the right hand whenever he can, because that is dempsey's achilled heel. dempsey is lunging and throwing shots, but johnson is able to either parry them, or tie dempsey up.

Round 2: Now dempsey realizes that johnson is on to his plan, so he is more cautious. dempsey moves in and out and johnson jabs a little. johnson seems to be using the same guidelines that the legendary gene tunney used in his fight with dempsey. johnson looks pretty fast on his feet at the moment, as dempsey cannot seem to find the target. johnson is countering well with hard lefts and rights. johnson is boxing well, and tying dempsey up when necessary. johnson does well in this round.

Round 3: Dempsey is still in his croutch, looking for that one big punch to take johnson out of there. at this point, johnson is too fast for dempsey. johnson has learned well from his last series with max schmeling, for max also alot of the time fights from the panther-like croutch that dempsey impliments. Jack (johnson that is )is now landing solid rights to dempsey's face, but he takes them, and dempsey has his jaw tucked in to minimize the damage. johnson is scoring well, and dempsey keeps coming in, but everytime he does that, johnson is right there to hold him off with his superior strength.

Round 4: Johnson is in his stance, periodically lunging in with some hard shots that jarrs dempsey. dempsey still keeps coming in, and johnson throws a lightning fast fluury that rocks dempsey. dempsey recovers and fights back though, landing his trademark left hook and johnson is a little shaken up, but when dempsey follows up, johnson still has enough strength to neutralize him in a clinch. they fight on, and from then on, and johnson does enough to win the round.

Round 5: Johnson is now carrying the attack, for dempsey is a bit tired from lunging at him all night, but dempsey holds strong. johnson is doing well, and holds his hands up in perfect position to protect his chin. dempsey just can't seem to penetrate his defense. dempsey however is not frustrated, but he presses on. johnson hurts dempsey again with a right, and now dempsey is hurt. johnson is now teeing off on jack's face, and gets him on the chin once, but jack survives the barrage and they continue until the round ends.

Round 6: Dempsey now goes out like a madman. he throws thunderous shots, only to be twisted up by johnson's powerful arms in the clinches. johnson is patient and methodical. johnson is now hitting dempsey with good shots, but dempsey fights back landing two right hands and a left hook, but johnson takes them well, and he comes back with some shots of his own before the bell ending the round sounds off.

Round 7: Dempsey is still moving in, but with not as much of the tenacity that he exhibited in the earlier rounds. johnson jabs and lands some good shots while holding dempsey and pushing him off. dempsey is not as aggresive and instead just tries to win some rounds. dempsey lands some good shots, but it's still all johnson. johnson lands good shots and has dempsey holding on till the end of the round.

Round 8: Johnson, knowing dempsey might have recovered is more patient now. dempsey is bobbing and weaving, and johnson uses his jab a little. dempsey gets under his jab and lands his left hook, but johnson presses on. dempsey throws another left hook and johnson parries it, and gets in a left lead and an overhand right, and dempsey is hurt! dempsey is in the corner and johnson tries to end it but dempsey survives and comes back with some thunderouspower shots that hurt johnson big time! dempsey puts on enough pressure to get this round.

Round 9: both men comes out. dempsey is in hiscroutch, pressing the fight, and johnson is moving and bouncing around a little. dempsey lunges, but johnson is there to tie him up. dempsey is strong, but johnson has that little extra strength to tie dempsey up in the clinches, but he can only do it for a little while, cause dempsey knows how to free himself and pound the body, which he does. johnson manages to get away and they cotinue. johnson jabs and waits for dempsey's lunges. dempsey corners johnson occasionally and work the head and body, and johnson counter punches when he can. the round is about even.

Round 10: Johnson lunges in with a hard right that dempsey takes. dempsey then croutches low and lunges and lunges, but johnson is fast and can anticipate what dempsey is doing. johnson is now looking better counterpunching and tying dempsey up when they get into a clinch. dempsey however does not get frustrated, but he just sticks to his game plan. johnson is landing his straight right well, and dempsey takes them. johnson looks fast and skillful, but dempsey keeps on coming. dempsey lunges with a right misses that, and then a fast left hook that stuns johnson! johnson holds on as the round ends.

Round 11: Dempsey is croutched low and pounces on johnson with his best shots. johnson is hurt and holds on and ties dempsey up. johnson tries to make a fight of it, but it's all dempsey as he pounds the body and johnson is defenseless. johnson lands some shots, but dempsey walks through them and lands shots of his own.

Round 12: Dempsey comes out and throws big shots and johnson tries to avoid them. johnson is moving away trying to survive dempsey's fury and dempsey is right on him. johnson tries to hold but it is futile. dempsey is now strong in the clinches and looks like a madman landing some powerful shots to the body and johnson is this close to going down, but the bell saves him.

Round 13: Johnson tries to stay away from dempsey. dempsey comes after him, but he is a bit tired. johnson spends most of the round trying to stay away and dempsey spends most of the round swarming into him. johnson does lands some steady shots but the harder punches are coming from dempsey. it's about even.

Round 14: Johnson is countering dempsey's blows and trying to stay away. dempsey lands some good shots, but johnson survives them. johnson for the first half of the round is trying to stay away from dempsey and dempsey for the first half is going after johnson. in the second half, johnson threw more punches and was more aggressinve. this is a good round for johnson as he puts some good punches together and does good in the clinches.

Round 15: Both men are pulling out all the stops and dempsey is going after johnson with a vengeance. for about 30 sec, they trade and johnson is hurt. dempsey smells blood and goes for the ko, but johnson cleverly makes him miss and johnson counterpunches. dempsey presses the fight, but johnson looks sharp as he jabs and lands punches and avoids punches as the round and the fight ends!

There have been no knockdowns. dempsey was puffed up against the eyes, johnson had a small portion of blood comingfrom his nose. here is michael buffer with the decision.

buffer: Judge Artie Aidala scores it 8-7 for johnson! Judge Tony Castellano scores it 8-6-1 for johnson!(applause is heard) Referee Mark Conn scores it 7-5-3 for johnson, winner by unanimous decision, Jaaaaaaack Jooooohnsoooooooooooon!

The crowd is joyous. johnson smiles to the crowd and walks out happy. that was great that johnson evened it up. now lets go over to Philadelphia.

                Sonny Liston

                height: 6'-1"

                record: 45-0-0 (40ko)

Now Marciano makes his way to the ring, and a few boos could be heard, while he walks down the aisle. and Liston comes in and 60,000 fans show their appreciation for the Big Bear. now here is michael buffer.

michael buffer: Ladies and gentlemen, introducing, from brockton, MA wearing solid black trunks, standing five eleven, weighing one hundred ninety three pounds, The Brockton Blockbuster Roockyyy Maarcianooo!!! Marcianoo!! and his opponent, from Philadelphia, PA wearing black trunks with white trim, he stands six feet one, weighing 212, The Biiig Beeaaaar, Chaaaaaarrles Sooonnnnnnnny Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiistooooooooooooon! Liiiiiistoooooooon! (the crowd applaudes Sonny) 15 rounds!

conn: protect yourself at all times. in the event of a knockdown, i want you to go to the farhtest neutral corner until I tell you to come out. three knockdown rule is waived. any questions? ok, shake hands.

Round 1: marciano is in his croutch, and he tries to press the fight, but liston keeps him away with his jab. liston lands his straight right well, and marciano manages to get a goog suzieq in that liston takes. liston is jabbing and jabbing and throwing the occasional straight right and marciano is taking the punches. they clinch, and liston uses his superior strength to push marciano off. liston keeps using his rapier-like jab to keep rocky off balance. rocky is taking every punch that liston throws at him, including his left hook.

Round 2: Liston keeps using his jab and rocky cannot land a punch because his arms are too short, so he starts hitting his arms to try and weaken them, but liston ties marciano up and pushes him off. marciano's eyes are puffy from the punishment he is laking. marciano lands a big right hand that liston basically walks though and throws a one-two-three combination that staggers marciano. marciano somehow survives the follow-up onslaught from Mr. Liston.

Round 3: liston again uses his jab, but somehow marciano gets under it and uppercuts liston, but sonny took it well. marciano follows up with a couple of body blows and liston holds marciano, pushes him off and stuns him with a right hand. marciano shakes off the effects and keeps coming, but cannot seem to land. it's all liston as he landscrisp clean combos to the body and head, hurting rocky.

Round 4: Marciano comes out, determined as ever. he throws wild shots that liston slips and then liston takes advantageby throwing a left hook and down goes marciano! marciano is up at three and liston goes after him throwing big shots. marciano is up against the ropes and somehow survives the punishment.

Round 5: liston is hitting marciano with that pile-driver left jab and marciano is cut over the right eye. liston keeps jabbing and lands a one-two that rocks marciano, but marciano keeps on fighting. they get into a slugfest, and rocky lands one out of the blue that stuns liston! liston holds on and recovers. liston and marciano trade until the round ends.

Round 6: Marciano comes out and tries to end it, but he is too wild and all his shots miss without liston doing a thing to avoid them. liston throws a left hook that grazes marciano's jaw but it is enough to hurt him. marciano is cut in both eyes now, for they cannot take the punishing power of Sonny Liston's fists. liston is dominating this round, hurting marciano periodically, and capitalizing on his 84 inch reach and marciano's 67 inch reach. liston throws a big left hook and falls down, but the referee rules it a slip as the round ends.

Round 7: Marciano is still taking alot of punishment, but has done little to liston due to his pipe-lengthed jab. liston's reach is the difference here as he uses it effectively. like Foreman-Frazier, it seems that marciano's swarming style is all worng for power sluggers with iron chins. marciano is still fresh, though, cause he is well conditioned. marciano lands a big shot and liston holds on a bit and marciano pounds the body and arms. liston holds on as the round ends.

Round 8: Marciano is stronger now. can that be the difference? liston keeps jabbing and using power shots. both of marciano's eyes aare cut and swollen shut. marciano is now going on smell and feel. liston pummels marciano on the ropes and marciano looks horrible. referee mark conn stops it and holds up Sonny Liston's hand!

michael buffer: The winner by a technical knockout at 1:45 of the eighth round, Sooonnyyyyyy Liiiiiiisstooooooooon!(the crowd is estatic as liston has a comanding 3-0 lead)

liston: I gotta hand it to him. Anyone that can go eight rounds with me is ungodly!

can liston sweep the series? find out next time. thank you for joining me today. that will be it for today. once again the final scores are, Part1-johnson ud15, and Part2-liston tko8!

                Bye.

                  Bye.
just to let you all in on something
Marciano really didn't cut that easily
he only cut in about 4 out of 49 fights and thats not too bad

                    • vs.

Hello, and welcome to Sam Houston Coliseum, where the two champs from Houston will square off, ali and foreman. speed and grace versus thunder and lightning. ali weighed in at 215, and foreman was 219. I interviewed foreman earlier today.

butterfly1964: Well how will you go about defeating Ali?

foreman: As the great Joe Louis said, "He can run, but he can't hide!"

Wow!! well, there you have it folks. here is the tale of the tape.

                      George Foreman

                      age: 24
                      height: 6'-4"
                      weight: 219
                      reach: 81"
                      record: 38-0-0 (35ko)

                      Muhammad Ali

                      age: 25
                      height: 6'-3"
                      weight: 215
                      reach: 83"
                      record: 29-0-0 (23ko)

And now Muhammad Ali is coming in to the ring wearing a baby blue robe. Muhammad goes in to the ring and shadowboxes. some people cheer when he comes.

George Foreman comes in the 70,000 screaming fans show their appreciation. foreman is wearing a white robe.

Michael Buffer: Ladiiiiies and geeentlemeeen, introducing, from houston, texas, wearing light blue trunks with white trim, he stands six feet three, he weighs two hundred fifteen pounds, he is the greatest, muhamaaad aaaliiii!!(a few cheers could be heard among the fans) and his opponent, also from houston, he's wearing solid white trunks, he stands six foot four, he weighs two hundred nineteen pounds, "biiiiiiiiiiiiiig" geooooooooorge fooooooooooooremaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!(70,000 people scream hysterically)

here is the referee mark conn giving the instructions.

conn: alright boys, you know the rules of the texas state athletic boxing commision. i want a good clean fight, remember to protect yourself at all times, any questions? ok, good luck.

Round 1: ali circles foreman and throws some jabs that foreman takes. foreman is cutting off the ring well landing some body shots that ali takes. ali then gets out of the corner to land some stinging combo's that doesn't seem to bother george. both men use their feet in this one, as ali boxes around foreman and tries to stay away like he did with sonny liston, and foremanuses his speed of foot to cut the ring off and nuetralize ali's speed. ali win's this round as george cannot find his target that much: dundee is telling muhammad to keep on the run and land shots where he sees an opening, and saddler is telling foreman to be patient and pick his shots.

Round 2: both men do the same thing they did in the last round, but now foreman gets a bit sloppy and ali capitalizes and lands some right hands. foreman is taking them and he presses on. ali lands some solid combinations, but he still keeps on the run. foreman still cuts the ring off and lands some body shots in an attempt to weaken ali. ali uses his jab, and so does foreman to an extent: foreman looks pretty good and so does ali. both men are up at the warning bell.

Round 3: ali still moves for the most part, but is going more flatfooted to increase the punching power. foreman cuts off the ring well with unusual quickness for a man that size! ali still gets some jabs in as he now is landing his fast fluury of hooks on foreman's face. foreman hits ali with a jab that rocks his head back. ali is stunned for a moment. ali still looks pretty good landing alot of punches on foreman: ali rests for a while and so does foreman, and saddler is seen giving foreman special pointers.

Round 4: Ali comes out agressively, quickly throwing stiff shots. foreman walks through them and throws shots of his own. they get into a clinch, and they both are trying desperately to outmuscle the other, but mark conn pulls them apart. Ali dances and moves and suprisingly still presses the fight, moving in with leads and moving back when needed. foreman gets some good shots and ali is hurt! foreman follows up with a left hook and ali is down! ali gets up at 5 and foreman continues with a one-two and ali is staggered. foreman hits him with vicious shots and ali cannot take the thrashing and the ref stops it.

buffer: the winner by a tko at 1:34 of the foruth round, Geooooooorge Fooooremaaaaaaan!!(the crowd goes wild)

that was great. foreman ties the series up at 2-2. now lets go over to New York.
