Roberto Duran had good defense given his style of fighting. Finito Lopez as well, although you can question his opposition, he was a damn boxing textbook all around.

Andre Ward, I would say he's great defensively. His defense isn't highlight material, it'll never be that but it's tough to hit him clean.

Ward is superb at keeping his opponent at exactly the distance he wants him at.

              Green k...

I don't know how anyone can claim that augustus landed one punch and wasn't landing consistently... His awkward style gave floyd a lot of trouble...

He didn't land consistently on Floyd at all. Floyd stood toe to toe and traded more, but he still wasn't hit consistently especially not compared to the way Tiberi and Sosa hit Toney.

And I don't know why we should pretend that Floud is bein honest when he says that's his toughest fight obviously it wasn't he won basically every round before stopping him.

We won't see these guys in thread again.... Maybe irondan

I think Wladimir Klitschko deserves a shout as well. His opponents obviously aren't anything special and when he does get hit it seems like his panics a bit, but since Sam Peter in 2005, he hasn't really been hit more than half a dozen times.

Obviously, like Ward, his defence is not highlight material like a Toney, Whitaker or Mayweather - but it still works.

I'm not saying he was some athlete but dis defensive capabilities given his build was superb.

We need to be able to distinguish what we mean by defence. Is it purely not getting hit? Because Roy Jones and Young Ali were pretty good at that or is it being able to avoid shots while setting up your own attacks that can KO your opponents like Toney or like Mayweather who can stay out of range pot shot his way to victory, get on his bike or be in the shell picking of his opponents with cute shots but not doing much damage.
